What They Say
If you had the wings of an angel, what type of music would you listen to? Perhaps the Haibane Renmei soundtrack would come pretty close, with 19 tracks of thoughtful, ethereal melodies from the fan-popular Haibane Renmei anime series. This CD soundtrack also features outstanding English language songs ("Wondering" and "Love Will Light the Way").
Haibane Renmei: the latest anime release from the creators of Serial Experiments lain and NieA_7. This soundtrack, available for the first time in North America, will be packaged with a CD booklet containing an interview with composer Yuki Otani and a vocalist profile.

The Review!
5 out of 5
Music found in the series Haibane-Renmei.

This CD comes with a ten-page insert. The first page is a very simplistic song title list. The next page is a beautiful poem that shares the same theme as the anime. The next two pages contain an interview with composer Ko Otani, regarding the music chosen. Next are the English lyrics to the song Wondering, complete with a beautiful copy of the same picture on the front of the CD. Then we have a beautiful picture of the main character from the anime with the English lyrics to the other vocal song Love Will Light the Way. Finally a full cast picture and the CD/series credits.

The music of this particular CD is, well, to be honest it is slightly melancholy. The slower paced, more emotion driven tunes are however a great deal of beauty. They have that older world feel to them that makes every song seem important, even if it is only used to set the scene for a really bad joke, it pulls out of the listener all the sorrows and lacking that you hold deep down inside. However, once exposing those feelings of inadequacy and sadness, instead of grating on them and pushing against them, the songs have the marked ability with the turn of one note, to make you feel as if you are not the only one that has ever felt this way, thus making you feel better that the feeling was exposed in the first place. Truly a work of art and beauty that very few soundtracks have compared to. Simply a treat to the mind as well as the ear.

I’d have to say the visual art of the series could only enhance an already beautiful soundtrack.

Fangboy says…can I go cry now, this is just too much beauty for me.
