Vinnie Jones' JAKE NOBLE

The UK's Times Online takes a look at actor Vinnie Jones' bid for comic book glory in the form of the new 'Jake Noble' comic and TV show.

Jones is modle of Howard Chaykin's new graphic novel about an violent super spy who is forced by his boss to work with two female agents chosen because they are his illegitimate daughters. The comic is due out this year.

The concept is simultaneously in development as a TV series for Jones to star in. Alex Cole and Seth Howard, who are developing the story for television.

"I never really thought of TV before as a medium for me. However, with it becoming such a source of creativity these days, and this project with its modern Bond style and feeling to it, I couldn’t resist," says Jones.

IRON MAN 2 Goes Big with IMAX

IMAX Corporations, Marvel Entertainment and Paramount Pictures announced yesterday that 'Iron Man 2' would debut on the IMAX mega-screen on May 7, simultaneously with its worldwide theatrical release.

According to a statement issued, the film’s limited IMAX release will be digitally re-mastered for the giant screen presentation.

"The success of the first 'Iron Man' movie catapulted the franchise from the comic books to theatre screens, and we're excited that the IMAX format will offer fans an even more immersive way to experience the sequel," said Tim Connors, Chief Operating Officer, Marvel Studios.

"'Iron Man 2' is a fantastic addition to our growing film slate for 2010, which is filling out faster than any previous year," said IMAX CEO Richard L. Gelfond. "The rollout of our digital projection system has enabled us to add more films to the slate, and we’re very excited to partner with Marvel and Paramount on this next installment of the incredible Iron Man franchise."

Joe Gatt on THOR

ScreenRant.com chatted up actor/stunt player Joe Gatt about his role in the currently-filming 'Thor' movie.

Gatt may be familiar to genre fans as he did motion capture and voice acting as the lead in the video game sequels to 'God of War'.  Now he gets to go to war with a god of thunder.

"I’m playing a bad guy with a lot of action," Gatt revealed. "My character gives [Thor] a lot of grief."

Sworn to secrecy, the actor couldn't reveal any more than that. However he did express his enthusiasm for Marvel comics, saying he read 'X-Men' and 'Thor' as a kid.

SPIDER-MAN Rumor #1: Is It TWILIGHT for the Web-slinger?

Here's an item for StarlightGuard:

ET Online is reporting that 'Twilight' actor Robert Pattinson is a contender for team Parker in the 'Spider-Man' reboot. ET cites "reports" as the source of their report (seriously) that Pattinson is somehow flirting with the lead role in the Sony/Marvel franchise.

The TV news magazine checked with sources at Sony and Columbia who predictably denied the rumors. "Our first step is to find a director," said an unnamed publicist.

De Luca says PRIEST Hype is Imminent

With production wrapped on the manga adaptation 'Priest' fans may be wondering when the first trailer for the film will hit. Producer Mike De Luca told Collider.com to watch for a reel to drop some time in February. With the film debuting in August, there are also plans for a big presence at Comic-Con.

De Luca says that Sony Screen Gems has been high on the film from day one and sees it continuing beyond the first.

"We submitted the spec script to Screen Gems. Clint Culpepper flipped over it and said to us, this is a franchise. He loved the image of the guy with the cross tattooed on his face," said De Luca. "Like it really just sold him on how he could sell the movie. And he’s been its biggest champion and was excited about it from the beginning."

The movie is directed by 'Legion' helmer Scott Stewart and stars Paul Bettany as the title holy man, battling demonic vampires to retrieve his captured niece in a future-west setting.

SPIDER-MAN Rumor #2: PREDATORS Director A Fave?

Here's a name for the 'Spider-Man' director's job that hasn't come up before: Nimród Antal.

The Quiet Earth website claims that Antal is a favorite of spidey-daddy Sam Raimi. Maniacs know that Antal made a big splash directing movies like 'Kontroll' in Hungary before returing to the U.S. for luke-warm movies like 'Vacancy' and 'Armored'. He's presently at work on the Robert Rodriguez produced restart of 'Predators'.

Raimi produced 'Armored' so he's apparently a fan of Antal's work. But supposedly it's the good buzz on the new movie that has Sony interested.

To be honest, we're having a little trouble buying into this report, mainly because the wall-crawler films are such a huge tentpole for Sony and it seems likely that they'd be that eager to entrust it to a director who is batting zero-for-two at the U.S. box office.

But, one thing C2F is sure of: Antal won't be the last director name we'll hear thrown around before 'Spider-Man' rolls cameras.

Is Jackie Earle Haley playing Sinestro in GREEN LANTERN?

The Motion Captured blog over at HitFix.com reports that actor Jackie Earle Haley is, in fact, pretty much a done deal to play Sinestro in the 'Green Lantern' movie.

Haley's name had been dropped by internet gossips last year but the actor himself debunked the rumors saying he'd never tested for the part. Motion Captured can't say exactly where they are in the negotiation process but for all intents and purposes "Haley is the guy." Warner Bros apparently loves being in the Jackie Earle Haley business after his work on 'Watchmen' and 'Nightmare on Elm Street'.

Fans can expect Sinestro to begin this movie as the top cop in the Green Lantern Corp, training and fighting alongside Hal Jordan. However, the events of the movie will position him to emerge as the primary villain in the sequel. This time around Peter Sargaard gets the bad buy honors as the big-headed Hector Hammond.

What do you think, Maniacs? Haley is the perfect choice to rock the Sinestro stache, is he not? Post your comments below...

Jackie Haley's becoming the new go-to guy it seems, with Watchmen under his belt, Human Target and Nightmare on Elm Street coming up...

And I think the ET report on Pattinson is just playing for attention. I really can't see that even remotely being true..

AntoBlueberry 1/15/2010 6:30:39 AM

I thought Jackie Earle Haley was great in Watchmen, but I don't see him as the David Niven goen sour/Sinestro type.

Rhe Pattinson thing is probably BS.

Wiseguy 1/15/2010 7:02:09 AM

How can Haley play Sinestro in Green Lantern Sinestro isn't a midget, how about Haley play one of the Guardians of the Universe like Ganthet. I still say Daniel Day Lewis should be approached and then go to Hugo Weaving if he has time between The Hobbit scenes

Iron Man 2 in I-Max? I'm getting my tickets now

THOR is going nto be sick. I get a little more juiced everytime I read any little snippet about it

Pattinson as Spiderman? It will NEVER happen, mark my words. I'll personally hunt this maggot down and kill him before can spin any sort of web

Sony needs to look at Blomkamp for Spidey. Isn't he the new hot and coming guy.

Can't wait to see how Priest looks. This could be a sleeper hit in the making if it's better than Solomon Kane

Ozymandas 1/15/2010 7:27:17 AM

Good Sinestro casting if you ask me.

Curious about Joe Gatt's role. He's muscular but in a sinewy sort of way & I think he played "Constrictor" in a Heroes short. Not buff enough for Kurse, Ulik, Executioner, Absorbing Man, etc. Maybe one of the Wrecking Crew, a Dark Elf (Malekith) or - I can't imagine they'd use him - Cobra?

silversurfer 1/15/2010 7:35:17 AM

Wiseguy, I was thinking the same thing about Sinestro.....I have no doubt that Haley can do the role, but honestly, are they going to have a high chair everywhere the guy goes?  Of course camera angles can be shaped to make him look taller, but still.....

We all want Sinestro to be the bad-ass that he is without the fear of it going wrong. This is one of those that I would really like to see done right because it deserves it.

ddiaz28 1/15/2010 7:40:25 AM

Iron Man in Imax ... I feel a tingle in my pants.

I don't believe the Robert Patinson rumor, but Twilight was the first thing I thought of when I heard Sony wanted to bring Spidey back to high school.  They want to capitalize on this new craze for teen romance and drama.  I sure as hell hope not.  Although the films have their own bit of drama and character angst, the characters are at least adults.  If they have to bring him to high school, I hope they start with him in 12th grade like the original so he gets out by the second.

On a side note, anyone see Conan last night with his brooding vampire and new Na'vi assisstant.  It was pretty funny.  I can't see it of course since I'm in Toronto, but if you are in the US it's up on Hulu...

SONYMANswallows 1/15/2010 7:43:00 AM

His Krueger is lauhably bad. Nightmare on Elm Elm Steet is a laugh fest. Sinestro does not need a squeaky voice or a raspy voice. Sorry Jackie but time to go away again.

Robert Patinson as SpiderPig? Wow did this rumor come from a gay dance club?

redhairs99 1/15/2010 7:52:54 AM

I like Haley, but I think Wise is right here.  Haley's just too short to play Sinestro.

The Pattinson rumor doesn't surprise me as Twilight was the first thing to come to mind when they started talking about the direction of the new film, but I doubt (AND HOPE) that it's not true.

SelectiveRealism 1/15/2010 7:53:55 AM

If Green Lantern fails one major reason might be the villian.   Unless your a hardcore DC/Lantern you have to wiki Hector Hammond.  Iron Man was able to get away with Obadiah Stane but that movie was carried by Robert Downney Jr.'s performance.

fft5305 1/15/2010 8:11:24 AM

I don't recall Sinestro ever being a big, beefy dude. I always remembered him as being short, and rather spindley. In which case, Haley might be perfect. After all, the rings are powered by the user's willpower, not their physical size or strength...
