HALLOWEEN Attacks DVD December 12

By: Jarrod Sarafin, News Editor
Date: Monday, October 01, 2007
Source: Dimension Films

Rob Zombie suggested near Comic Con 2007 that his latest film had a DVD planned release sometime before Christmas. It turns out he was correct on that early prediction. Dimension Films and Genius Entertainment have set the day for December 12, 2007. No details have been given on what will be attached inside the DVD. Zombie's reimagining of HALLOWEEN is still in theaters at the current time having grossed 56.1 million domestically in 5 weeks of release. The film hasn't been released in foreign markets yet.

You know that the budget for this thing had to be more than $50 million.

I'm glad to see that it tanked. DOWN WITH REMAKES!!

Maybe one of the extras on the dvd could be the original movie so people can see how a good movie is actually made.

Actually Daforce, the budget was only 15 million as reports indicate. But don't worry, there will be no more Halloweens...at least according to the Weinsteins. Then again, when have studios ever kept their word on that one?

"But don't worry, there will be no more Halloweens...at least according to the Weinsteins."

The Weinsteins may have said that and they also might have meant it -- but that means next to nothing. It's the Akkads who own the Halloween rights. Don't forget that Halloween II and III were distributed by Universal and 4 and 5 were distributed through Fox. The Weinsteins put out parts 6, 7, 8 and the remake but if they don't want to do anymore then I'm sure the Akkads could easily take it to another studio as they've done in the past.

daforce, this hardly tanked. It did fairly well actually. I havent heard anything aobut the Weinsteins not doing any more Halloween flicks, Rob Zombie isnt interested in any more remakes (of any kind)
I still dont see why theres so much hate for this remake... compared to the other sloppy remakes like Psycho Texas Chainsaw Massacre and Hills have Eyes it was a masterpiece, I thought it followed the source material pretty faithfully, it expanded on Michael Myers and shifted the focus away from Laurie Strode... theres nothing wrong with that.

Yeah, there's nothing wrong with that other than the fact that we really didn't need another rehash of a classic movie. There are plenty of scripts out there waiting to be made, but Hollywood wants to try and get 'a sure thing' for their investment.

It was made for $15 million, huh? There was no info about it on Box Office Mojo. So unfortunately, it made its money back and then some.

Now I'm disappointed.

I didn't think this movie was as

good as the original. It's weird this

movie was released in August and

it seemed like it didn't last too

long in theaters. When I saw this

movie the first, there was barely a

reaction from anyone. The first

half of the movie looked good, but

it was too long. The rest of the

movie wasn't so scary, there was

bad acting, and the Sam Loomis

character was not potrayed well on

screen. It really didn't make too

much sense. What bothered me

the most was the ending. It's weird

on how this movie will released on

December 12th. It very doubtful

there will be any more Michael

Myers movies after seeing

this.

At first, I was very reluctant about Any remakes and constantly bitched at movies being remade....But a couple of things came to me:
1. GET OVER IT!
2. It is not like the industry is going to hear YOUR voice and say, "Hey. That guys is right! We should not do this and I feel ashamed of myself.."
3. Like a couple of people have said arond here, if you did not like the remake, then continue to watch the original! They might not have altered it like Lucas and Speilberd had.
4. I say bring on the remakes!! Seriosly, I am WANTING to see what they come up with next.
5. Get this: It is up to YOU to see the remake or not. So if you have low expectations going in there. I would say there is a 60/40 chance you are going to come out of it NOT liking it.

If you could not tell, I highly enjoyed this movie and am looking forward to whatever Zombie has in store for us. If you like Horror shit like Saw then you should be happy with the genre. I however am not, and think Zombie is a much needed director/writer in the Horror genre.

P.S. Eat it Erkel!!

On it's own, this was a fairly well made movie, at least better than most of the crap Hollywood has been putting out for horror fans. I love how people act like because there is a remake or reimagining, that the original is somehow slighted. If anything, in most cases it shows what a truly original and good movie the source was.

I have watched the early edit that has been circulating on the net and I like it also. i somehow feel the best version of this movie didn't make it out and probably exists somewhere between the theatrical release and that early version.

to address some of Freethinker's points:
1) its STILL playing in theaters.
2) it sounds like you didnt like it JUST BECAUSE it was released in August. WTF???
3) there was "bad acting"? Honestly I've witnessed some horrible acting before. I didnt come away with the feeling that hte actors werent giving it their all, Zombie is just getting started as a director and he might not know how to give actors their cues... Malcom McDowell was terrific as Loomis, Malcom is an experienced Thespian and there was nothing underwelming about his character. The thing I saw was that it was probably took much more acting ability for him to play the villain in Star Trek Generations or Tank Girl than it did to play Loomis, because he's more or less a "normal" psychologist.

4)what about the ending bothered you? The fact that they actually closed it off with a definite and proper "finito" (unlike the original???)
5) releasing the DVD on Dec 12th makes you dislike the movie? WTF???
6) Zombie wont be doing any more remakes, which is good because he needs to concentrate on his original films... but I doubt this is the end for Michael Myers.
------------
Daforce, I agree with you, we really DIDNT need a remake of Halloween, just like we dont really need a remake of Escape from New York or Assault on Precinct 13. I agree with you, however, thats not a valid argument for disliking a film because you're not looking AT the movie that Zombie made and judging the final product, you're looking at the current trend of endlessly remaking movies and saying this is why Halloween is a bad movie.
case in point: Tim Burtons Planet of the Apes was a really horrible movie because the ending wasnt "plausible" and made no sense, the script was full of holes (and Mark Walberg sucked). HOWEVER,
Tim Burton's Planet of the Apes wasnt a horrible movie BECAUSE it was a remake. There are other factors at play here.
I agree that it didnt need to be made... but it WAS made, and its actually not a bad remake.

mlaforcer • Oct 02, 2007, 02:49am •
Let's go with common sense here...If you don't like remakes don't go watch them and stop bitching about them because they do no harm to you in any way, it's kinda like bitching about your apple tree sprouting new apples every Spring even though you don't like apples or happen to be sick of them, You don't have to eat them! Plus every once in awhile you get a great remake like 3:10 to Yuma...I can guarantee the way you feel about the original will not change with the remake for instance superman returns has not changed my feeling about the original superman and yes superman returns is a rip off of the first one but we all have argued that one so no sense into getting into that...Never the less there is nothing wrong with remakes, of course that's just me...
