Updates:

September 15, 2006 - In an interview with AICN, Peter Jackson discussed two of his upcoming projects: TEMERAIRE and HALO.

Regarding HALO Jackson said:

"We certainly didn't set out with HALO to find a first time filmmaker to do HALO. We wanted somebody on HALO that would have 3 qualities. One, a very important one, is that they wanted to do it really badly. They had to be absolute HALO fans. That was important because there are a lot of people who would be happy to do HALO for the paycheck, there's a lot of people who would be happy to do it for the publicity they're going to get from it and the kick it'll give to their career and all that and all of that sort of stuff. There's lots of reasons to do HALO that would be attractive if you're not a HALO fan, but we didn't want any of those people, we wanted somebody who was a real HALO fan."

July 12, 2006 - IGN and Dark Horizons have reported a rumor floating around regarding the possibility of Denzel Washington playing Master Chief in the upcoming film HALO.

According to the rumor, Washington is apparently the favorite for the part, no official word has been given.

The AP reported earlier this month that Washington had met with Peter Jackson in New Zealand to discuss working on an undisclosed film. Jackson is serving as executive producer on the upcoming HALO film.

March 19, 2006 - The Hollywood Reporter let it slip that Guillermo Del Toro was attached to HALO as well as various other films. No official word has came yet about Del Toro and the possibility of directing HALO, most other reports suggest he is just a possibility at this point and not officially attached.

October 5, 2005 Universal Pictures and Twentieth Century Fox have signed Peter Jackson and Fran Walsh, his wife, to executive produce the upcoming film HALO, based on Microsoft's videogame. Jackson said, "I'm a huge fan of the game and look forward to helping it come alive on the cinema screen. [Reuters]

February 4, 2005 Microsoft has hired Alex Garland to adapt their highly successful videogame into script. Once the screenplay is done it will be shopped to studios as an all in one package: script & rights. Peter Schlessel will serve as a producer on the project.

who is with in declaring just how bad of an idea this is. when was the last time a bad ass game was turned into a bad ass movie. super mario brother was awsomely bad, street fighter sucked, mortal combat 1&2 just sucked. not to mention house of the dead and now alone in the dark (which the game itself sucked). only ridley scott or james cameron could make this movie do-able.

I agree. Only Ridley Scott or James Cameron could make this work.

The only reason House of the Dead and Alone in the Dark were crap is becuase they were directed by Uwe Boll, who can't direct for crap.

I definitely would not consider myself a 'hard core' gamer but the main reason WHY I purchased both the playstation and nintendo (?) in 1997? was for 'DOOM'. However, as far as transfering over to the medium of film, I've had my suspicions and I was RIGHT. DOOM SUCKS. Who knows with HALO. These games into movies but turning out horrendous is a trend that for the life of me I will never, NEVER, NEVER, understand how the effort, the energy can be put into these bullshit!! I'm ready to abandon movie going already anyway, they give me so many incentives to do so.

I love the concept of "HALO" but fear like so many Video Games turned into Movies it would "Suck". So here's my idea. You have a very ancient race known through out the stars as the "Covenant". They murdered and enslaved houndreds of species, and know they have found the ultimate weapon. Only problem is they have to go through our galaxy to get to it.
So now radars all over Earth are going crazy because just like animals running from a forest-fire you got a lot of different aliens fleeing the Covenant. So now they find us "The Galaxy's Last Hope", (Scary I Know). A premitive race with out fear. We send a small team of troopers to the ring world and they just happen to make it there first, now all they have to do is protect the ancient weapon from an enamy with countless numbers all while trying to figure out just how it works. Not to mention the closest thing they have towards reinforcements is about 6mo-away. This movie needs to Rated R and extreamly violent.

Don't forget about Wing Commander. Great game franchise. Immensely popular. Huge fan-base. Suck-ass movie. If they had stuck with the spirit of the game, it would have worked. That's what they need to do with Halo. Make it part Aliens, part Rambo and all Master Chief.
