Do a story that features, the Ewoks, Jar Jar, and only the beeping squeaking droids. Two hours of CGI enhanced hilarity ensuing!

Actually, I'm betting the new story won't involve any of the original characters. It will probably be set maybe a 1000 years further in the future so that the setting, characters, and story can be completely new. Since this will be based on a George Lucas plot, it will also probably involve some type of universal mythic tale put in this setting. It will be a storyline tha could just as well be set as a Greek myth or medievel times.

And unlike Star Trek TV and movies you don't have to worry about how far the tech shold have advanced. SW is a fantasy/fairy tale setting. It's alright that all the gear from the Old Republic through the movie setting and beyond be about the same.

 You guys all need to get over the whole, Luke, Leia, Han story arcs. It's DONE! The only reason to bring them back is to advance the love story triangle, and they have a 3-some.

hanso 11/1/2012 9:14:33 AM

I dont want incest in Star Wars.  Can we switch Luke for Lando in that 3some.

hanso 11/1/2012 9:16:29 AM

 Isgrimmer, i was only half joking.  The Skywalkers havent been played by acting thespians, so Walker would fit right in.

hanso 11/1/2012 9:17:26 AM

 Actually, lets switch out Luke with a chick, i dont like 2 guys 1 girl 3somes.

  @monkeyfoot - Is that why Lucas had a meeting with Hamil and Carrie?

[George Lucas] asked Carrie [Fisher] and I to have lunch with him and we did," Hamill says, "I thought he was going to talk about either his retirement or the 'Star Wars' TV series that I’ve heard about — which I don’t think we were going to be involved in anyway, because that takes place between the prequels and the ones we were in and, if Luke were in them, he’d be anywhere from a toddler to a teenager so they’d get an age-appropriate actor — or the 3-D releases. So when he said, 'We decided we’re going to do Episodes VII, VIII, and IX,” I was just gobsmacked. “What? Are you nuts?!” [Laughs]"

That is from SuperHeroHype under Mark Hamill Talks Star Wars: Episode VII. Stupid thing won't let me post a link. Ggggrrrrr.

Yeah, Hamill is going to be it. Sorry but Luke is the most public face of Star Wars. It is a fact.

Yes, I read and re-read your post.  I'm not suggesting recasting or rebooting the saga.  I'm suggesting maintaining continuity by having the story take place 50 years or so after the original trilogy and keep a few characters from that series.  The focus of the story is on a whole new cast though, and Luke would be in a supporting role this time.  What you failed to talk about in your post is WHY the movies "need" (your words) to feature the same cast of characters as Episodes 4, 5, and 6.  There's no reason why 7, 8, and 9 all have to have the same faces, unless it's mere fan service.

axia777 11/1/2012 10:19:02 AM

@jackwagon -

Uh, because the public recognizes Luke, Leia, and Han as being the faces of Star Wars. That is why the movies "need" the actors. That is not fan service. That is marketing and brand recognition. That is a fact of business. That is cash money in the pocket and Disney will know this.

I guess we are in agreement on having Luke in a supporting role. As I said have Luke be the new Yoda figure in the movies training the New Jedi Order that centers around the Solo twins. It is simple and effective. The Solo twins can be the new center of the Skywalker story line. There are the new faces we want that also includes the old school characters too. To have the twins you would have to have the mom and dad, who are Leia and Han. They need not be the center of the action or story-line, but to not have them at least have them as secondary characters would be lame.

Jaine and Jacen Solo all the way leading the New Jedi Order.

But again, who will be the new head villain? Who will be the new Emperor and Darth Vader?

@Axia & jackwagon,

That scenario of Luke the elder Jedi in a supporting role to newer characters on their own adventure is the only way I could see using any original cast. Maybe Leia, too. Maybe. It just seems that since it is a whole new trilogy in a SW universe that is loaded with infinite possibilites you don't want to limit yourself to the same set-up and people.

Plus, I'm betting whatever George has planned will severely mess with the canonical expanded universe of the books and comics. After all, its his creation. If he wants to come up with a storyline that maybe erases or changes the Solo twins, Mara Jade, or whatever he can do it. But if it would be set a long, long time away from the other trilogies he wouldn't have to worry about a thing. Room to do whatever you want.

I just saw this reported on some other sites. George is donating most of the 4 billion he will receive to charity, primarily educational endeavors.

My love for George knows no bounds and this puts a cherry on top.
