If they're really going wholly "original" like they're saying, not an adaptation (*tear* for Heir to the Empire), I would be surprised if we see Jacen or Jaina, as they were constructs of the Expanded Universe.  Maybe they'll cherry-pick, though.  I wouldn't have a problem with that.

Cherry picking ideas from the books for the Solo twins was the basic premise of my idea. Just take the characters and have them in a new story line. The Solo twins are just such a great concept. And who does not want to see Jedi Knight Leia Organa Solo? Come on now. That would kick ass.

 axia777,

Yes, I think we agree that Luke should be running the Jedi council in this new trilogy.  However, I believe the Star Wars Universe is bigger than a small group of people like Han, Leia, et al.  The Solo twins could be used as major characters in this trilogy, and if so I think that would give fans what they desire and also acknowledge previous canon.  But an old Han and Leia wouldn't be able to contribute to the story overall this time around; they had their time in the limelight and now the torch needs to be passed on to a new generation.  You mentioned that Disney would want to market beloved characters and you're right - but who says they couldn't also properly market new additions to Star Wars?

I want to see a whole new set of heroes AND villains this time around, not just recycled folks who I already know.

I'm just guessing that they'll get Vin Diesel as the new "roguish, pirate-like hero with a heart of gold," Jonah Hill as the HILARIOUS son of Chewbacca, and some total no name tween heartthrob as a reimagined Admiral Thrawn with sparkly skin.

Oh, wait!  Disney took over, so maybe I can actually hold out hope for a film that DOESN'T suck.

@jackwagon - To each their own I guess.

All of this talk about recasting SW has me really skeptical and kinda depressed.

Now I know how the Trekkies felt !

Unless CGI has improved a couple of Gens since Tron:Legacy, then don't try to create the original cast w/voice over.

dnbritt 11/1/2012 11:10:08 AM

Actually, Star Trek gives me hope that it can be done right...

XeroWarp 11/1/2012 11:12:30 AM

Paul Walker and Vin Diesel?? Are we casting SW or Fast Furious???

monkeyfoot 11/1/2012 11:33:01 AM

Again agreeing with jackwagon.

If he set the story for the next trilogy within the lifetime of the remaining characters he runs the risk of stepping on all that expanded universe stuff. Axia, think how upset you are with Fox for the X-men movies. People will be screaming, "Hey, how can the Solos be here when they should be there at this time? That chracter can't die, he's supposed to be that comic book series!" George has already gotten endless grief from changing just little things in the movies. He and Disney would probably not want that hanging over them for a new trilogy.

Just start out fresh in another time and place. New characters and merchandising. People will still go to see it because its Star Wars.
