Hamill to Return in Episode VII Rumors

monitoring the rumors

I haven’t been ignoring the the return of Mark Hamill as Luke Skywalker news, I have just been waiting for some sort of official confirmation. The rumor has been out there for a couple of days now, but then again it has been since October. Will Hamill return in an Obi-Wan type role? Entertainment Weekly had posted yesterday that there are discussions and negotiations going on. They spoke to Hamill who had this to say:

While any casting decisions will ultimately be in the hands of director J.J. Abrams and the rest of the Star Wars Jedi council, Hamill suggested he’d like to see as many of the original cast members return as possible: ‘Another thing I’d want to make sure of is—are we going to have the whole gang back? Is Carrie and Harrison and Billy Dee [Williams] and Tony Daniels, everybody that’s around from the original [returning]? I want to make sure that everybody’s on board here, rather than just one.’” - from EW (read the full story here)

Personally, I like waiting to hear from Lucasfilm, Disney, or even Star Wars.com myself for the official word. Rest assured Maniacs, we have all their emails and wait patiently.

Star Wars Episode VII is slated for a 2015 release.

Just how long after Episode 6 is this movie going to be?  I mean it will be tough to introduce a new generation of actors to this series but unless they are going with a 20 year difference this is going to tough to swallow.

 30 years later

You can get away with a 30 year time lapse. And as he said in the interview it will probably focus on their kids who could be 20 something. A nice age for the 15-30 age group to indentifiy with on their adventures.

What will probably cause the most stir will be the expanded universe readers who will get pissed at what they decided to take and leave from those books and comics. But as far as I'm concerned they should just do whatever they need to make a great set of movies.

Ditto that Monkeyfoot!!  Do whatever it takes to make it GREAT!

I'm good for a 30 year jump.  I just think they should have re-cast for longevity sake.

moonsunne 2/22/2013 10:30:46 AM

i just don't want them to throw all of the expanded universe books out of the window. If you want to tell me those stories, fine, i'm all for it.

Remeber, the only reason Star Wars started back up again was Zahn's books in the early 90's. To completely discount that would make me pissy.

Splinter of the Mind's Eye was made irrelevant after Empire Strikes Back, and that book was originally endorsed by Lucas, so Expanded Universe is irrelevant. So says Nomad. :)

I love the expanded universe, but if discarding all or part of it will get us a well made new trilogy, I am fine with discarding.  Doesn't make the books any less interesting to read

Glad they are bringing the originals into it, will be better that way. I would bet the new movies will be new stories, after all, we had a prequel trilogy where we knew what was going to happen. Who wants that again?
