Dutch producer John de Mol is bringing back British horror studio Hammer Film Productions.

De Mol has has acquired the rights to Hammer's library, home of roughly 300 titles.  The titles include the famous Dracula series, which made actor Christopher Lee a household name, along with films such as The Curse of Frankenstein and The Mummy.

Los Angeles based Spitfire Pictures will team up with the "new" Hammer to produce two to three horror films or thrillers a year. The company will also look to produce TV shows -- Hammer Horror TV.

Hammer Films will rely on an investment of $50 million to start up production.

Call me weird if you want, but this news makes me giddy.

Me too. I've always loved the Hammer horror films.

Ahhhh....cheesey "B" movies,,,,,,fantastic,,,,although noone can beat the Troma films.

Man, I loved the Universal monsters, but Hammer's films were my all time favorites. They were the ones that made me pull the covers over my head at night. I just hope they pay tribute in more than just the name.

Man, I grew up on those old cheesy horror movies. I just wonder if the same idea will play well these days. Either the push will be to make a bigger budget with great f/x or the movies will be so cheesy no one will want to see them. Ugh, don't even get me started on Troma...

Yeah...those were actually pretty cool...not to mention all of the cleavage.....

The color in the films were always very vivid in true B movie fashion!

God yes the cleavage! They were an adolescent boy's dream. You could watch them even if your mother was in the room.
Hopefully they won't just start remaking the same titles again but come up with new films in the same spirit.

Blood and cleavage. Hmmmm...not a bad tagline.

They won't be able to replicate the old Hammer flicks, but I hope this breathes new life into the old movies. It would be great to see them get more exposure.

I hope they don't destroy these films like they did The Wicker Man. They need to embrace the type of films and filmmakiine that make these movies what they are.
