"I was thinking that we just didn't want to do PITCH BLACK 2," recalls Twohy, during a break from shooting, of his initial talks with the studio. "And there were some scripts developed for PITCH BLACK 2 by other writers, and I thought that it just wasn't ambitious enoughnot in spectacle or budgetbut why do I want to spend two years of my life going back to the same planet, fighting the same creatures, and spending more of Universal's money? So I suggested that they look at a very early treatment that I wrote for a sequel right after [completing] PITCH BLACK. They did, and they said, 'This is pretty good. It's got scope, it's got spectacle.'"
