Since the vampire novel debuted in book stores in 2005, by author Stephenie Meyer, two more sequels have also been published(New Moon, Eclipse) and two more are planned for the near future. Summit's executives Erik Feig, Rob Friedman & Patrick Wachsberger have high hopes to turn this successful book series into a franchise of films.

Plot Concept: Centers on a story of 17-year-old Bella, who moves to a small town to live with her father, and is drawn to a pale mysterious classmate who comes from a family of vampires.

Sounds a little like the Lost Boys.... I like vampire movies... Some offer a new take on them, and that is cool. As long as this does that, I am game.

From what I've heard about these books they:

A) Are basically soft-core porn for teens

B) Take place in a rain-soaked town on the coast of Washington State, thus no sunshine

Could be good, but definitely no "30 Days"

I fear that this project could go one of two ways:

1. Cutesy teenage romance (something you might find on the CW)

2. PG-13 rated, non-frightening scary movie which destroys any plot, like the adaptation of "Blood and Chocolate."

I haven't read the books (but a number of my freshmen students have). What I find interesting is that the author is a stay-at-home Mormon mom.
