Screenwriter Joby Harold, who's currently finishing the spec for the action zombie flick Army of the Dead, has two more genre projects lined up, reports the Hollywood Reporter. The scribe has been hired to pen the screenplay for an adaptation of Frank Miller's graphic novel Ronin, which was published in the 1980s, and he's taking on an adaptation of Michael Reisman's children's fantasy novel Simon Bloom for Universal.

Ronin Plot: Story
centers on a masterless samurai who is reincarnated in a dystopic near-future New York populated by squatters, factions and mutants. The ronin must try to destroy a demon with a mystic sword, which also is found in New York. Sylvain White is attached to direct.

Bloom Plot: Story
revolves around an 11-year-old and his two friends who acquire possession of a physics book that enables them to alter the physical properties of the world, including gravity.

IMHO, not Miller at his best. I like the samurai stuff, rest he can keep. That said, "RONIN" should have been made years ago, theatre, DVD/cable. A good script would solve any shortcomings. Hollywood, get with the program!

I remember really digging Ronin when I was a teenager but I haven't read it since. I'll have to dig it out again.
Man, Miller is going to town in Hollywood these last few years.

Love Ronin as much as his best work. But not so happy it's being "adapted". Just film it as is! No changes necessary and you have the storyboards to boot...
