Josh Hartnett is in negotiations to star in 30 Days of Night for Columbia Pictures.

The script, written by Stuart Beattie and Brian Nelson, follows a local sheriff (Hartnett) and his wife who is also a sheriff. It is set in Barrow, Alaska, the northernmost town in the U.S. where the sun does not appear for more than 30 days during the dead of winter. An evil force emerges from the darkness, striking terror into the town. The husband and wife sheriffs are forced to choose between saving themselves and helping the town survive until daylight returns.

The film is based on the comic book by the same name and will be directed by David Slade.

I recently read an interview with Hartnett where he said he was trying to change his image and take on meatier, more serious roles. Guess that fell through. Eeeviiil clowns! Anyone remember Killer Clowns From Outer pace?!

The clown wasn't in "30 Days of Night." The graphic novel was such a huge hit that the creators came up with other stories. I remember that at one time Sam Raimi wanted to do this film (after Spiderman), but opted for producer status on the film. I'd highly recommend the graphic novel, especially if you like vampires. The artwork by Ben Templesmith (his artwork reminds me a bit of Bill Sienkiewicz) is creepy and really fits the tone of Steve Niles' writing very well. Niles has really found himself a niche with his horror writing and has a number of projects being developed for film. Here's a link for more on Niles' work http://www.steveniles.com/thirtydays/

Ditto with what Wes said. Good stuff.

This happened to me once. We just drove south for the month. Amazingly no one robbed us when we were gone. Though the vampires did raid the fridge for some strange reason. Weird.

Try putting a lock on the fridge next time. Worked for me.

This sounded like a good idea for a movie. But then Josh Hartnett signed up. Not a good sign...

30 Days of Night rocks! But I have to agree with #8. Josh Hartnett would be better of in a zombie movie. As a zombie. Because that is about how much range he has as an actor.
