What They Say
Episode 7: Half-baked Jealousy!! Ja-pan
While Nagi's heart was healing and Hayate gave her some space, of all places, why did he stay with Hinagiku? Is there something developing there? Maria was worried about Hayate's whereabouts so she sneaked into Hakuo Academy in disguise. She took the elevator to the student council when she saw Hayate and it was just the two of them. Hayate wouldn't expect to see Maria at the Academy, so he didn't recognize her. Therefore, she took this as a good opportunity to get things out of Hayate when…
Content: (please note that content portions of a review may contain spoilers)
We start off with Nagi alone in the kitchen (never a good thing) trying to make tea. She's all alone since Hayate is temporarily banished from the house, and Maria has gone off in search of him to see if he's okay.
And that's where we come in: Hayate and Maria (in disguise) in the elevator on its way up to the top of the clock tower. Hayate wishes to help Hinagiku to repay her for her putting him up at her place. Maria originally came to the clock tower for nostalgia (she was once Student Council President many years before), but finding Hayate there, she could not help but tease him a little, trying to find out what his relationship to Hinagiku is. That's when the elevator becomes stuck, and also when Hayate finally realizes that it is Maria with him. Then the two get caught in a compromising-seeming situation by Hinagiku when the elevator starts moving again and the doors finally open.
Of course, Hinagiku's anger is later diverted when Hayate finds her after school and tells her that he'll be making dinner tonight, since her mother was called into work. And then we get the Hinagiku and Hayate play newlyweds show. Which ends with Hinagiku discovering that her belief that Nishizawa is Hayate's girlfriend is not actually so. Leading to Hinagiku rethinking her situation and the two getting completely flustered.
So of course it's time to have Nishizawa appear herself, in order to complicate things even further, despite the protests of the Narrator. So, Hinagiku does the only honorable, and completely unrealistic thing: she invites Nishizawa to stay over her house as well. And thus Hinagiku learns some more about Nishizawa, and about Hayate.
Oh, and they get a cat.
In Summary:
The convoluted relationship issues come front and center now, with the triangular relationship between Hayate, Hinagiku and Nishizawa being fleshed out in this episode. The comedy quotient remains high, especially with the Narrator's asides and commentary on the scene at hand. Hayate's life is only getting more complicated, with the number of women who are attracted to him rising, while his own feelings are utterly confused and mixed up. Oh, and they get a cat.
