T. Lewis and Mike Fryco-creators of the Over the Hedge comic strip that has been adapted as an animated filmtold SCI FI Wire that they cut the pigs from their stable of characters for the movie. The movie features a turtle, a porcupine, a squirrel, a skunk, a bear and other woodland creatures, but the pig was cut when they began pitching the movie, originally envisioned as a live-action feature, because of Babe. "When we first pitched the idea, it was The Secret Life of Pigs, and we thought of it as a live-action movie with CG in it, but then we got rid of the pigs," Lewis said in an interview.
