Updates:
September 29, 2006 - In a recent interview with Sci Fi Wire, Guillermo del Toro discussed the sequel to 2004's HELLBOY. Del Toro mentioned that the film will feature killer robots and a new character, the spectral B.P.R.D. agent Johann Kraus, but will eliminate Rupert Evans' Agent Myers.
"The idea is, in a strange way, not very different from Pan's Labyrinth," del Toro said in a telephone interview on Sept. 28. "It's a clash between the real world and the fantasy world, you know? And how the world of humans is destroying, eroding, imagination."

August 14, 2006 - Guillermo del Toro recently talked to the Latino Review about his recently green lit project, HELLBOY 2.
Talking about the story, Del Toro said it would be "sort of the magical world declaring war on the human world. The first one was dealing with a much more urban environment, and the second one is more in a mythical type of environment, more magical. So hopefully it's closer to some of the aspects of the comic book that we couldn't portray in the first one."
Del Toro went on to say that shooting wouldn't begin until late April or early May, "We have a long prep ahead of us. We're going to shoot this one in Budapest, in Hungary and we're going to shoot a little bit in London, and we're going to do pre-production and post-production in London. ... We definitely have all the regulars: Hellboy, Abe Sapien and Liz Sherman are back. We have two characters from the fantasy world, which are a prince and a princess that we will be casting very soon."
August 4, 2006 - Universal Pictures has elected to fully finance and distribute HELLBOY 2, the sequel to the 2004 film HELLBOY. Guillermo del Toro will be back to direct the comic book adaption.
Universal picked up the film after it was left in limbo with Revolution Studios out of business. Revolution Studios made the original film via it's distribution deal with Columbia Pictures.
HELLBOY 2 is aiming for a summer 2008 release.
July 26, 2006 - Doug Jones, who played Abe Sapien in HELLBOY, talked with Sci Fi Wire about his role in HELLBOY 2
"The role of Abe Sapien will be beefed up quite a bit for part two," Jones said. "The relationship with Hellboy is going to be more fleshed out. ... The buddy thing ... and conflicts that arise with him are going to be more explored, which I'm very excited about. Abe gets more interaction with bad guys ... [and] has another little sub-storyline that I think is going to be delicious. I don't want to give anything way, but it's going to be a very, very exciting movie to make."
Jones continued,"We've already done two [animated] featurettes of Hellboy, ... [and] I was able to come back and voice the role of Abe Sapien for that. And [director] Guillermo [del Toro] has now ... mentioned publicly that I will be voicing Abe Sapien in the sequel as well."

June 7, 2006 - Some news about HELLBOY 2 came out of the recent Fangoria's Weekend of Horrors convention.
Guillermo Del Toro, who was in attendance, told iFMagazine that the film was looking for financing and switching studios.
"We're moving studios right now," says Del Toro. "They don't have a deal with Sony any more and we are looking for financing for HELLBOY 2. It's at Paramount right now. It's bigger in scale, but not necessarily in budget. Abe Sapien has a much bigger part, and we're keeping closer to the mythology of the comics. There is a song by Barry Manilow, and you'll have to find out about how that fits in. I know you are all saying 'what the f**k is that?!'"
March 12, 2006 - SCI FI Wire talked with Ron Perlman recently who told them the sequel to HELLBOY will be called HELLBOY 2: THE GOLDEN ARMY.
Perlman said during an interview, "I think that that's an invention based on a number of different things that have appeared in other comic books." He also added, "It's a compendium of a lot of elements that they were not able to address in the first one... Now they can kind of branch out a little bit and get funky with it...."

May 14, 2004 - The news broke today in The Hollywood Reporter that director Guillermo del Toro, producers Lawrence Gordon, Mike Richardson and Lloyd Levin and HELLBOY creator Mike Mignola will all work together on a sequel to the red-skinned superhero from down below. Revolution Studios will once again develop the second HELLBOY picture. No time frame was given as to when a script may be completed or when the new film could be out in theaters.
"We are excited to be making the sequel to HELLBOY and to be bringing back the amazing creative team that made it so memorable," said Tom Sherak of Revolution Studios to the Reporter. "The film was made for a relatively low cost and has performed magnificently here in the U.S., and we look forward to it continuing its successful run internationally."
In his public discussions about what we might expect to see in a HELLBOY 2 movie, del Toro mentioned that he would like to include the B.R.P.D. character Lobster Johnson in the next one. [Hollywood Reporter]
