Universal Pictures has passed along word that the first trailer for HELLBOY II: THE GOLDEN ARMY will premeire this week. The trailer will go live online at 3 PM ET/12 PST on Thursday December 20, 2007. The film was written and directed by Guillermo del Toro and stars Ron Perlman, Selma Blair, Luke Goss, Thomas Kretschmann, Doug Jones, Anna Walton, Brian Steele, Roy Dotrice and John Hurt.

Plot Summary: With a signature blend of action, humor and character-based spectacle, the saga of the world's toughest, kitten-loving hero from Hell continues to unfold in "Hellboy II: The Golden Army." Bigger muscle, badder weapons and more ungodly villains arrive in an epic vision of imagination from Oscar®-nominated director Guillermo del Toro ("Pan's Labyrinth," "Hellboy").

After an ancient truce existing between humankind and the invisible realm of the fantastic is broken, hell on Earth is ready to erupt. A ruthless leader who treads the world above and the one below defies his bloodline and awakens an unstoppable army of creatures. Now, it's up to the planet's toughest, roughest superhero to battle the merciless dictator and his marauders. He may be red. He may be horned. He may be misunderstood. But when you need the job done right, it's time to call in Hellboy (Ron Perlman).

Along with his expanding team in the Bureau for Paranormal Research and Development--pyrokinetic girlfriend Liz (Selma Blair), aquatic empath Abe (Doug Jones) and protoplasmic mystic Johann--the BPRD will travel between the surface strata and the unseen magical one, where creatures of fantasy become corporeal. And Hellboy, a creature of two worlds who's accepted by neither, must choose between the life he knows and an unknown destiny that beckons him.

HELLBOY II:THE GOLDEN ARMY will hit theaters July 11, 2008.

Can't wait.

Del Toro is this man, he knows the character and knows how to tell a story without it turning into a special effects commercial. I have high hopes for this movie after the insultingly messy/dumb super hero movies of this past summer. I say bring on Big Red, its time to kick some ass.

I like Del Toro's movies, but I didn't get the big fuss over Pan's Labyrinth. It was a good film, but I wasn't like "oh my god, this is amazing."..... Anyway, I am excited for this. is David Hyde Pearce doing the voice for Abe again?

I was asking the same thing during the last flurry of info that was released. Consensus seemed to be that Doug Jones is doing the voice this time. Anyway, I can't wait for this trailer. Loved the first movie. Hoping the next one will be as fun!

I liked the first but I wasn't awed by it. I'm hoping for more from this one. I like delToro but I think people tend to give too much credit sometimes, this being one those times in my opinion. However I must admit I did love Pan's Labyrinth (his best movie by far).

I also enjoyed Pan's Labyrinth, but I would rewatch Hellboy before rewatching Pan's again. The message I got from that movie is for the love of crap, stay out of Spain!

i really enjoyed the first flick...and i've been reading news about this one for a while, but funny to note how different the marketing is for this than most movies now. they give a still shot a week or so ago, and now a trailer all of a sudden. just seems like the floodgates opened (Which i'm definitely happy about)

Would that all geek movies were so lucky to have a del Toro at the helm (Tim Story, I'm lookin' at you, pal.). I was skeptical about the first Hellboy, but the sense of a unified world that del Toro created gave it such a nice feeling and sensibility. Pan's Labyrinth was phenomenal. His storytelling demonstrated a smooth facility in moving between the real and the fantastic, which was a hallmark of Hellboy as well. Lookin' forward to this sequel in a big way.
