HELLRAISER Project Not a Remake

Doug Bradley's Pinhead has been an ever growing character (for better or worse) throughout this series but don't expect him in the upcoming HELLRAISER movie, at least not in his signature role. Sure, the character Pinhead will be in it but the creators, Alexandre Bustillo and Julien Maury, are taking this in a different direction and they're making it clear that this won't be a remake. It will have the same title (Hellraiser) but the story concept will be different than the original concept we remember. While at the Sitges Film Fest promoting their recent horror film, INSIDE, the duo spoke to Twitch Film about the project, specifically Clive Barker's thoughts on their script plans.

We are actually writing the script right now and we don't want to remake exactly the Cliver Barker movie," Bustillo tells Twitch Film. "We have met Clive and told him what we want to do with 'Hellraiser' and he said, "It's f**king good do it!' We are happy to have his benediction. It will not be a remake. It will still be called 'Hellraiser' and it will have a new Pinhead." He added, "We are big fans of the original but we don't want to do it as a remake since that would be complete nonsense to do [or approach] it that way. Our story is very very different I promise! It will be cool!"

This isn't the only cult classic horror film getting a story revision. New Line is handling the Friday the 13th remake but they ditched the "mother" storyline and will feature Jason w/hockey mask in his full size. Of course, the studio is still calling that film a "remake" in their press releases while these writers are flat out saying "Not a remake!".

People are so afraid of the word "remake," and I guess I can understand why, but call a spade a spade and move on. A remake, to me, means it's the same over-all story, but I EXPECT it's not going to be a shot-for-shot remake (like Psycho a few years back...and that was NOT a good idea).

I'm sure the writer would rather be seen doing something 'original,' but if that's not what you're getting paid for, at least they're getting paid. Unfortunately, because of the internet, if you use the word remake you get ripped apart. It's just a stupid word game, and that's all...

Woth the tons of content that has been produced by Barker over the years, I don't see why anyone has to re-visit Hellraiser yet again.

"Our story is very very different I promise! It will be cool!"...Who are these guys, fifth graders??? What is next "up your nose with a rubber hose"? Give me a break...little full of OURSELVES....

I read either in an interview or on Barker's website and he said he like's where these people are taking the story and that it is indeed different. I think he might also, given he has time, hop on as producer. As long as he's down I'm down and I trust it's going to be good. Hopefully though it's not one of those concepts that only looks good on paper.

The thing that bothers me about "remakes" is when they just change something so it is different, even it would have been better to just stick with the original idea. Also, when they update the story by mentioning the internet or using cell phones, it's not 20-30 years ago, we get it.

Other than that, go for it, if it's good, fine if not, oh well.

I was under the impression that Barker was going to rewrite and direct the new version?....I guess not.

Barkers next flick is Midnight Meat Train, which is completed and ran at the film festivals... it was well received apparantly.

I wish Barker would do a sequel to Nightbreed, but unfortunatly its been 17 years so I'm thinking a remake of 'Nightbreed' might actually be the only way of finally getting the true BREED trilogy completed and released.

Got News for these Hollywood morons. When there is a all ready established movie out there, loved by many and stands through the test of time today , then you take it and redue the whole thing THEN ITS A FREAKIN REMAKE !
JEEZ . WITHOUT DOUG BRADLEY THIS WILL SUCK ! HE IS AND FOREVER WILL BE PINHEAD !

That's interesting, first Jason, and now

Pinhead. It dosen't make whole a lot of

sense what these producers are doing

with these classic horror characters. At

least I am glad they stopping making those

direct-to-video sequels. I think it was just

a matter of time that something like this

was going to happen. Who knows what's

next?

Actually first was Leatherface, then Jason then Michael Meyers. Bradley is PINHEAD and it would be worse to see someone taking over Freddy from Robert Englund or who would be a new TALL MAN even though Angus Scrimm looks more perfect for the part now. At least CANDYMAN isnt being remade with tyresea, yet?

Wasnt Clive Barker originally remaking it himself just to use better special FX to heighten the story?
