One thing i am sure, the actor will be a freak !!! Steve Reeves was on his time a freak, when he become older and saw arnie he told him, Guys, you are pushing too far...! today arnie look normal, but we have more freak who really look massif....The rock can be cast, but I beleive he will not....

I'm only curious who they are going to get to star as Herculese. Without meaning to offend the fans of the TV show, Kevin Sorbo really didn't look the part. Lou Ferrigno (sp) did. But the movies he was in was pretty crummy. Watching the dubbed Herculese with Arnie was just bad, but funny too. I'll wait for the trailer.

The thing about movies like Hercules is that they aren`t really taken seriously. If they moved it, into the same vein as say Gladiator or even 300, then it might be cool, but when most people think Hercules, they think about some diesel dude, throwing people around yelling, "I will smite ye down with a single blow!" I liked the series with Sorbo. It was fun to watch, but this should be slightly more serious.

There you go Ponyboy,,,Vin Diesel as Hercules......hmmm....I think they should do this Passion of the Christ stlye, and just haveHercules whipping Jesus or something, and have it all in Greek. That would be a new spin. Oh, and have him just some normal sized dude, built, but normal sized and much like Jesus, the stories have become greatly exagerated over the years and this tells the true story of the Man who was Hercules.

no, diesel, not Vin Diesel. Let me pull out my slang dictionary Diesel - adjective- use to describe one`s size, more specifically, their musculature. Can be used to describe an object or scope of occurence. e.g. "Yo, that subway sandwich they made me, was diesel. or Damn, that dude is diesel, I`m not messing with him." "That crowd is diesel. I`m going over here." Sometimes used with "mad", or "crazy" e.g. mad diesel.

Hercules should look strong, but doesn't have to look like Arnold in his prime. The gods gave him his strength, not roids and iron. I don't want more camp Hercules movies. Ponyboy76 was right; a movie more in the tone of 300 or Gladiator could be great. Give the production a gritty, realistic look and make Hercules a young man with incredible power trying to find a balance between life among mortals and his immortal lineage. I'd like to see that movie.

My first thought was that somebody's looking to emulate 300. And I think I'd be interested, if they went that route. Lots of great tales to put on screen.

I agree with Whiskeymovie. Hercules' strength comes from being half god as the son of Zues. The actor they choose should be built but doesn't have to be huge. If they choose a good actor and have him workout in prep for the part rather than using a bodybuilder just for their looks the movie could be good. Hopefully they would make it a more serious take than most of the camp versions they've been making for the last few decades.

Given the writer's cited works, I don't have much faith this will be worth seeing (much less talking about). But let's give him the benefit of doubt... I'll throw a name in to the hat for the main role; Eric Bana.
fft5305 5/31/2007 9:22:46 AM
Not bad, biogeek. Bana was pretty buff in Troy. I would think they might want to go a little younger, though. Maybe as some sort of rite of passage into manhood or something. I don't think they need to have someone bodybuilder bulky, but definitely someone who looks like they could kick some ass. The source of his strength lies in his divine heritage, though, not his muscles. A real Hercules movie should cover the 12 Labors. If done right, this could kick ass. It probably won't though and it will suck.
