Clone Wars to Get Digital Distribution?

Rumor or fact?

Some of the big news to emerge from Star Wars Celebration Europe 2 was that the final episodes of The Clone Wars would get released. Supervising director Dave Filoni kept referring to these episodes as “Bonus Content” (see Mania's coverage here).

Jedi News is now reporting that the final episodes, the “Bonus Content”, will get a digital distribution to coincide with a new Star Wars app.

“A Disney branded app for Star Wars will launch on Apple TV devices, with plans to distribute the final Clone Wars episodes exclusively digitally only through the Apple TV device for a limited period of time. This will happen in this holiday season.

In 2014, plans are in an early stage to use the platform to deliver SW7 production news ‘live’ from the sets, followed with Star Wars Rebels in late 2014 taking us all the way through to SW7 release.”

Jedi News also had this to report:

“Distribution will only be on Apple TV devices capable of running iOS7 and there has been no confirmation if the same app will be available to other iOS devices such as iPad or iPhone."

I appreciate the chance to see these final episodes, but I hope they will release them in a set. I get it, they want fans and newcomers to download the app and get connected to all the Star Wars Episode VII content. It’s smart, but I want my hard copies.

There is no official word yet from Lucasfilm or Disney. The only thing we do know is that Star Wars: The Clone Wars: The Complete Season Five will be released on October 15 on Blu-ray and DVD.

Disney sucks. I do not use Apple products so I will have to wait for them to release it on  DVD or Bluray. Bastards.

Ahhh...the world of corporate entertainment...with Disney the Exxon Mobil of the entertainment industry leading the charge and setting the rules (power corrupts).

I expect corporate tie ins like this Disney / Apple collaboration will soon become commonplace.

The almighty dollar drives it all...and we pay and pay and pay.

In the meantime the edgy genre entertainment we once loved gets watered down and packaged for family consumption, mass appeal and mega profits.

I am a big fan of Apple as I run my business with them but exclusivity deals are CRAP!  Why short change yourself?

This is sort of BS if you ask me.  Ticks me off to no end.  Why not just release them with the season 5 or make another Blu-ray.  I have an ipad, but I still think this is dumb (oh and I hate apple)

axia777 8/28/2013 5:34:09 PM

LOL  And they wonder why the torrenting scene is so strong.  F*CKING MORONS.  F*ck Apple and f*ck Apple TV.

I will buy them all on Blu Ray for sure, but only as one massive package.  I will buy NOTHING else.

I have an ipad and like using youtube with the pair on my tv anyway, does it cost anything the app?  I don't mind this myself since I don't need to own the hard disks.  What did Geoge Carlin say about "stuff" if you remember?
