Seventh Son Trailer

Hansel and Gretel Again?

By Robert T. Trate     July 14, 2013
Source: warnerbrosuktrailers

Here is the first trailer for Warner Brothers’ Seventh Son. It looks as if Warner Brothers didn’t learn anything from Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters

Synopsis: A 18th century adventure story centered on young Thomas, who is apprenticed to the local Spook to learn to fight evil spirits. His first great challenge comes when the powerful Mother Malkin escapes her confinement while the Spook is away.

The Seventh Son features Jeff Bridges, Julianne Moore, Ben Barnes, Olivia Williams, and Djimon Hounsou.

The Seventh Son arrives January 17th, 2014.

I will definitely rent this.  I think it looks like the special effects are done really well.  Might be fun.

I know nothing about the book series, but from looking at this trailer it kind of comes across as standard FX blockbuster fare. Not bad in look and production but nothing that makes me go "Wow!"

Unless I see another trailer or scenes or hear good word of mouth and critical acclaim I would also wait for cable at this point.

I thought that looked effing great.

Yeah outside of comic book superheroes sword and sorcery is probably my favorite genre hence my love for LOTR amongst many.

I am so there opening day

Let me toss in one thought concerning the slam at Hansel & Gretel :Witch Hunters.... The title alone tells you the filmmakers were seeking to make something campy and fun, and that's what they achieved. The movie wasn't supposed to be good, it was supposed to be fun. And it was lots of fun, with some very unexpected twists (Peter Stormare's end came as a total surprise. I thought he'd be a pain in the ass to the final reel.) It had good action sequences & awful bloody special effects that would make you burst out laughing, they were so ridiculous.

All this plus we got the beautiful Gemma Arterton AND Famke Jensson...? I thoroughly enjoyed it and bought the Blu-ray. They don't ALL have to be awesome. Some can get by on just plain old "fun".

well said dojen

Agreed dojen. Hansel and Gretel was one my best times at the theater this year. I loved the sort of steampunk take, the fact that it was rated R helped and yes the beautiful Gemma Arterton and the future Wonder Woman is always pleasing

Wiseguy 7/15/2013 5:49:42 PM

Btw I believe there's talk of a sequel too to H&G. The only downside was that it may be pg13 so some of those bloody kills won't make the cut

My first thought was that it reminds me of Willow, but a little more "scary."
