"Heroes" getting major changes?

According to Tim Kring in an interview with Sci Fi Wire, the hit show Heroes will start a whole new chapter come season 2.

"If you remember, the opening of the pilot pronounced the episode as the beginning of Volume One," Kring said. "Volume One comes to a conclusion at the end of episode 23, and Volume Two starts with the opening of season two. And Volume Two is a different story."

"We could have new people and new storylines and new ideas and new threats and new bad guys and new heroes. So I would prepare the audience for that idea, that it's not just a continuing serialized storyline about only these people. It's a little more the 24 model than the Lost model."

"Many of your favorites will live to fight again."

KJ's Take:  Heroes is by far my favorite show on TV and as such, I'm not quite sure how I feel about this.  I mean, it could be cool, I guess?  I trust the writers to keep this series interesting, and I trust whatever story arc they are taking us on.  The show has earned that much.

Granted I will miss whoever goes from the show but as long as they actually end their storyline, it won`t be so bad. This kind of a cool idea. It makes sense because even in 24 there is always a new threat every season and you spend most of the season getting to know certain characters but you don`t know that they will make it to the next season. It sucks but then you get to know different characters and move on. This will definitely keep the show fresh.

I like the idea of introducing new characters every season and having some characters, even those we might like, die. Showing a hero's mortality gives the series a feeling of realism, and a hero making the ultimate sacrifice is good drama. Also, as all comic book readers know, dead doesn't always mean dead!

The worst thing about superhero movies is that the first half an hour of every one is the damn origin story. Half an hour waiting for Peter Parke to get bit by a spider or Bruce Wayne training as a teenager, when all I wanna see is more of the other parts of the comic book stuff.

It's not that I only want to see Sandman and Spider-man duke it out. It's nice having character development and plot twists, but the origin story is the most boring part and I'm not so sure I want to sit through a whole slew of new episodes where people slowly discover they have the ability to shoot ramen noodles from their noses.

Ponyboy makes a good point. No one other than Jack is left from the first season of 24 and I still love the show. So although I'd be sad to see some of these characters go, as long as they are replaces with just as compelling heroes the show will still be great. And as long as they don't die, they could always make appearances later. The writing has been great so far so I'm not too worried.

As far as origin stories go I don't mind them if they are done well. I loved the fairly long origin story woven through Batman begins. Well the entire move was the story but I mean the flashbacks. They were well done and kept pace with the rest of the film. Personally I love seeing how these people discover and develop their abilities. I think that is why I like heroes so much.

Here are my theories on the main characters...whether they stay or go.

Claire: She will leave home, and wander the country searching for meaning to her life and others like her.

Peter: After being an integral part of volume one, Peter will take a backseat to the other characters, continuing his training with Claude.

Nathan: He will win the election, only to be outed as a "hero" once in office.

Isaac: He'll be lucky to make it through Volume One.

Nikki/Jessica, Micah, DL: Their chapter should wrap up before season's end, but not before we see a "Hulk"-like version of Jessica.

Parkman: Put a fork in him.

Mohinder: He has to stick around...who else would provide the soothing narration?

Hiro: Although I hate to say it, I don't think Hiro will be around for much of Volume 2. Someone else can take over the comic relief of the show (Peter?), and Hiro can return in Volume 3 as his slick, sword-weilding, time-traveling self.

That's my time.

This is also my favorite show and while I agree that it will be totally acceptable to see new character every season, they don't have to kill many. It is understandable that chracters like Parkman or Ali Larter's character want to live normal lives with their family.

As long as the creator's don't try and trick or take advantage of its audience by pulling some crazy wool over our eyes. I'm still waiting to see how saving the cheerleader saves the world and how the bomb incident will be avoided.

It will aslo be cool to be in a different story line and maybe see an old character pop up down the road to either lend a hand or be used by the bad guys against the new good guys.

Look what has happened to Lost.
Please keep it fresh.

And this is how they blow their great ratings.

How he worded it sounds terrible. To me it seems "Well we didn't think we would get a second season so I only planned for one and now need to pull a rabbit out of my ass".

I hope the explosion happens, that would be wonderful.

Sounds like a good idea. This will make it different from other serialized shows where I think viewers get tired of seeing them and itmakes each season completely fresh and new. But there is also the familiarity factor. I'd like Hiro to always be in there. And now that we know his father is involved in things this will probably happen.
About seeing new boring origin stories: I'm sure that can be avoided by dealing with people who already have their powers and have incorporated them into their lives.

Heroes doesn't suffer from the origin storyline time-waster problem, because there really aren't much to the origins. People just kind of figured out that they could do special things. The way they handle it in Heroes is very efficient. Pretty much everybody got their powers around the same time and for the same reason - except for Claire, and possibly Hiro, who were children of people with special abilities.

I'm VERY happy to hear this news about season two. This way, no character should feel safe - anybody can go at any time, which adds a lot of tension. I definitely don't think this decision was made the way bdd describes it. so far, everything has happened the way they originally planned it. How difficult would it be to just continue next season where season one left off? Not hard at all - this was a decision made based on how they want to run the show, which is perfectly fine by me.

If Peter sticks around, there's no need to keep ANY other hero by the end of any season, since all of their powers can be utilized by Peter. This can end up being a cop-out, of course, if used too often, so that in itself may be a reason for Peter to die at some point. Eventually, he could just end up being TOO powerful, especially if he comes face-to-face with Siler again. His powers will double. This could spell doom for the poor lad, but I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

I don't think Hiro will be expendible due to being the comic relief. We've already seen that he matures quite a bit and turns into a major sword-weilding bad-ass. Somebody else will have to come in to deliver the jokes. Hey, now here's an idea. Somebody can come along with a power that DEPENDS on bad jokes. We've all heard about comedians who lay bombs. Well, this guy (or gal) could literally create bombs from bad jokes. The worse the joke, the stronger the bomb. Could be amusing.

"How can you tell a blonde has been using a computer? There's white-out on the screen!"

Ka-BOOM!

My Brother got me hooked on this show...he kept bugging me to watch, even went as far as to download the episodes and then mail them to me.......I think the show is really good, and hopefully they do not change to much.....A lot people say they trust teh writers....but look what is happening to lost....You cannot change the formula of a great series just because you think you can make it better, the reason it is a hit is due to the fact of it's original premise, look at CSI, almost NEVER deviates from it's known formula. And it is still a hit after all these years. 24 can do it because jack is the main character and we knew from the first seaon no one is safe.....
