Hide And Go Seek

Welcome to the Countdown, where gaming knowledge is taking a brief stay over on Mania before being shipped out to see the family. Personally I have been spending a bit too much time with the family, only because a game or two are holding me back. I have been playing Left Behind on the PC, which was supposed to be an all mighty Christian game, though it ends up being a little dry for my tastes. At least you can play as the army of the Anti-Christ. Anyways, I will get on with the show.
Metal Slug Anthology (PSP / Wii) - Finally the Metal Slug series is collected into one area and distributed. I find it a little amusing that there were discs for the X-Box with only two of the games on them considering they were still sprite adventures. In any event the series has always been fun, and the game should allow you to focus on the action even more, since you have a wider area to view it. I am a little more excited about the on the Wii, since the different controls could spice it up, but only time will tell.
Blazing Angels (PS3) - Ubisoft decided to port the somewhat decent game from the X-Box 360 to the Playstation 3 so that it would be one of the system's best games for the year. I am sorry Playstation... But at least next year you have some interesting games. The game is based on flight, and I suppose that this is the system's substitution for not having Warhawk on launch. Expect to be flying around with plenty of wingmen on your side.
Shield (PC) - Since the Shield has been a fairly popular television show, more so a year or two in the past, a game was created in its honour. One of the privileges is that the game offers are the actor's voices, and while that sounds limiting... Well, it is. The idea of the game is to get rich or die trying, which is somewhat similar to 50 Cent's game. Playing as a crooked cop you will still take down plenty of criminals. What makes you a crooked cop though involves choosing what you want to turn into evidence, and what you would prefer to sell yourself. The more you steal, the quicker you feel up the retirement fun, though you may get in the hot seat of internal investigations, so you can put police life behind your character.
Rainbow Six: Vegas (PC) - A few weeks after the X-Box 360 version was released now we are treated to the PC version. It is still hard to believe that Vegas sued Ubisoft over the game.
Z-Board World of Warcraft: Burning Crusade (PC) - The Z-Boards do seem a little gimmicky at first, but if you let yourself start using their products, you may find yourself unable to function without them. This mainly applies to people who get addicted easily, and World of Warcraft players seem to be the ones most susceptible to becoming addicted.
Chicken Little: Ace In Action (Wii) - Well... What can I say? Just another movie game ported to the Wii. At least the Wii is trying.
Elebits (Wii) - Here is another Wii game that everyone should be able to go wild over. In an interesting game of hide and go seek you will look around buildings and areas trying to find playful little Elebits. Using the Wii-mote you will aim on the screen and move items out of the way so you can find these characters. I hope this game allows for people to play online eventually, since the idea of hide and go seek can be negated if people know where you are hiding. Since I have been waiting for this game for quite a while, I will give it my nod for Game of the Week.
Far Cry: Vengeance (Wii) - Taking a few of the control scheme ideas from other Wii games, like Red Steel -Shudder- and Excite Truck, prepare to finally play Far Cry on the Wii. Driving with the Wii-mote should be standard to the other driving games, while aiming with your Wii-Mote for taking shots should be interesting.
Super Swing Golf (Wii) - If you thought that Wii Golf was a little limiting, at least with the courses available and the graphics, you may just enjoy this game a bit more. With customizable characters that you may dress up, prepare to go to the green like a pimp. Hopefully I do not get addicted to this game, because you may not hear from me for a long while. Luckily this is a sports game, and there is little chance that I will.
World Series of Poker: Tournament of Champs (Wii) - Just when I felt that I needed to play a Poker game on every console, I have been treated to that. As a side note, I was sort of hoping that Nintendo would release a collection of card games to download for free, something similar to what if given for free on every PC. Will it be an online game? Does not seem to be so, since the service is not starting until next year. This means you can enjoy playing cards against the computer.
Full Metal Alchemist: Dual Sympathy (DS) - Well, it seems another game from the Full Metal Alchemist series has hit the shores, again following the cartoon. I thought it was a pretty good cartoon, though not as fantastic as my friends thought. You can play the game with a stylus to do alchemy, similar to Lost Magic. There is side-scrolling action, as well as a touch-screen action. Overall you may just enjoy if you enjoyed the show a lot.
Well another week brings another five or so Wii games, so right out of the gate Nintendo is trying to catch up to the X-Box 360, while Playstation 3 is stewing slightly in its own juices. Hopefully this will allow the flavour to come out of their products, but with recent news that it takes 500,000 copies of a Playstation 3 game for a publisher to see a profit, things are not looking good. It seems that the Wii is the only one that has relatively cheap creation costs, which is why we will be seeing plenty of games on the platform. It seems a lot of publishers are finally developing with Nintendo for the mean time, which is great to see, but I wonder if that will last. All and all though, this is Captain Gordon signing off.
