Ron Howard's longtime producing partner Brian Grazer is now developing the old CBS series MAGNUM P.I. as a feature film. The project is in development at Universal Pictures where Grazer's production company, Imagine Entertainment, has a deal with. Donald Bellisario, the TV show's co-creator, is developing the movie version with Grazer.
Screenwriter Michael McCullers (who co-wrote the past two AUSTIN POWERS films with Mike Myers) has been hired to turn MAGNUM P.I. into a viable theatrical vehicle.
This isn't the first time a proposed MAGNUM movie has been attempted; novelist Tom Clancy is a self-admitted fan of the Tom Selleck show and tried to get a movie version going years ago. The MAGNUM movie, if it ever gets a greenlight, will probably be recast.
