What They Say
High School Girls in Okinawa! What awaits them as they venture into the land of exotica, Japan's southernmost prefecture filled with mysteries old and new? Is it romance? Forbidden love? Adventure? It's Emi and Kouda facing their toughest challenge yet as they try to assimilate Nao and Sayaka into their Moron Club! What do desperate young girls do in the privacy of their hotel room? That's all for you to find out!

The Review
Most high schools in Japan get to go to the hills or to the beach for their class trips. At elite high schools students are treated to week long trips to Korea, Guam, or Saipan. Apparently passports are necessary when you attend academies like the one in High School Girls. That isn't a bad thing but traveling with the girls from Saki High can turn pleasant international holidays into settings for situational comedy. Airsickness, jet lag, and jokes about strange cuisine and new cultures are a must but at its core there will always be menstrual cycle jokes to he cracked at the most inappropriate moments.

This trip will take the Saki girls to the tropicals islands of Okinawa, where the food is fatty and the booze is strong. Friendship is just as strong and the Moron Group seems to be even dumber than ever! Can the Moron Group ever get the Takarazuka girls to interact with the rest of the world? Will their world of inter-dependency and isolation rub off on the overly social Kouda and Eriko? Something tells me their worlds will only move farther apart.

As Comic High's frequency improves Oshima-sensei has moved away from the episodic nature that was present at the start of the series favoring longer stories with moments of narrative tossed in. This has allowed Oshima to experiment with some of the popular supporting characters. Selected by popular demand through magazine surveys, Oshima gave the yuri fans' favorite couple - the Takarazuka Pair - and put them within the cross hairs of crazy Kouda's comical stylings. Oshima does a reasonable job dropping cultural references of Okinawa; focusing mainly on Shura Castle and Okinawa's famous Shiisa statues. Testing the limits of yuri in a seinen magazine isn't a tough task. Yuri when not written by women for women is often seen in bishojo mags like the one HGS is in. Maintaining the "mysteries" of yuri and the Takarazuka Pair is hard when you are an ero manga artist like Oshima. Their relationship is never really examined in depth but that didn't mean Kouda didn't have material to work with.

All kidding aside this was an improvement in some ways but a little lacking in the area of character development. Still highly entertaining, as nothing can compare to its raunchiness in English.
