at least they are confirming already that there WILL be an extended edition of the Hobbit.

Wiseguy 2/6/2013 8:27:00 AM

I'm getting it

Like LOTR I will get the regular version and hopefully they'll do the same and put out an extended version with a collectible figure or diorama or book ends for the dvds.

Jedi, Did you see that somewhere?  I hadn't seen a confirmation yet?

I figured an extended set would be inevitable, so I will opt to wait this go round until the extended edition is out.

At the end of the second paragraph above:

"The March 19 home entertainment release will be followed by an Extended Edition available just in time for the holidays."

With a book as short as the Hobbit being stretched OUT into three films, extended editions seem a bit ridiculous... and unnecessary.

Of course, I will still end up getting them... sigh.

Will they or can they transfer the XFR 48fps experience to Blu-ray? Is that is possible or is it redundant? Is Blu-ray already at a 48fps resolution?

Questions for a simple mind in the middle of the night when all the world is asleep.

I'll wait for the extended edition.  Looking forward to adding it to my Extended LotR box set.

monkeyfoot, I read some weeks back that there wasn't going to be a hfr edition released on dvd.

I also had read that current players, blu-rays, can not play 48 fps content. But being that their software can be upgraded it may be possible in the future if it isn't already.

And no blu-ray isn't 48 fps but your tv, if you have motion flow or motion interpolation will give it a similar hfr look, albeit fake, just like it does any regular film played with the "motion flow" feature turned on

Lastly, even though some tvs have this motion flow feature no television currently has 48 fps input capability.

Oops, Guess I should actually read the full release.

I definitely need to get this because I was so goddamned lost while in the theater, which means I didn't enjoy it as much as LOTR, which I did not get to see in theaters.

You've really derailed my shopping plans Trate. :) At least I've already got Breaking Dawn 1 and 2 coming. And then Wreck It Ralph comes out that coming Tuesday, and then this just after that. And Roger Rabbit is appearing this spring too, as I recall.

Thanks Wise!
