In an interview with a Canadian newspaper, THE SIMPSONS creator Matt Groening revealed his father was that country of tundra and hockey, which makes American television's most recognizable father Canadian too.
Groening noted his father was born in Canada, and "That would make Homer Simpson a Canadian. I hope Canadians won't hold it against the show now that they know."
They probably won't given Homer isn't... real... and so his tracing his ancestry from Groening's father is a little iffy. However, Groening added, "We were counting on Canadians feeling superior to the Simpsons as being doltish Americans but now the secret is out."
