Comic Legend Carmine Infantino Passes away at 87

By Tim Janson     April 04, 2013
Source: Mania.com

Comic book artist and editor Carmine Infantino passed away on April 4th.  He was 87.  Infantino broke into comics in 1942 working for Timely Comics which would become today’s Marvel Comics.  Infantino worked for various comic publishers in the 40s and 50s before being hired by DC Comics in the mid-1950s.  Infantino, along with writer Robert Kanigher, was assigned to create a modernized of The Flash which helped usher in the Silver Age of comics.  Infantino designed the iconic red jump suit that we still know today.

Infantino was the artist on Flash #123, one of the most important comics in history as it was the first time a silver age character met his golden age counterpart as Barry Allen met Jay Garrick and the concept of parallel Earths was born.  Later he helped reinvigorate Batman by modernizing the character and giving him a new look.  In the 1960s Infantino was promoted to Art Director at DC and recruited new talents to DC like Neal Adams and Dick Giordano.  In 1971 he became the Publisher at DC and held the position until 1976.  Infantino continued to work in comics throughout the 1980s and into the 1990s and later taught at the School of Visual Arts before retiring.

RIP Carmine.

When I started collecting Marvel's Star Wars, he was the artist at the time. I really liked his style and look of the SW universe.
