A few months after locking in Tom Cruise as the lead star for his next sci-fi project, director Joseph Kosinski (TRON Legacy) is now poised to pick out his female counterparts. A process which will be taking place this weekend according to Variety's latest report. In the running for the roles of Victoria and Julia are actresses Olivia Wilde, Noomi Rapace, Olga Kurylenko, Jessica Chastain and Brit Marling.
The trade also confirms that the project is now going back to its former title of Horizons. That's what it was called years ago when Kosinski first hoped to bring the Radical Publishing comic to life on the silver screen, back before he got pulled into the Tron mythology. After hitting a development block with Walt Disney passing on the project in favor of Universal Pictures, it was changed to Oblivion. But it's now back to its original title.
Kosinski is directing, based on a screenplay by William Monahan and Karl Gajdusek.
Plot Concept: In a future where the Earth's surface has been irradiated beyond recognition, the remnants of humanity live above the clouds, safe from the brutal alien Scavengers that stalk the ruins. But when surface drone repairman Jak discovers a mysterious woman in a crash-landed pod, it sets off an unstoppable chain of events that will force him to question everything he knows. Victoria is Jak's assistant and contact on his missions while Julia is his fiancee on Earth.
Horizons flies into theaters July 19, 2013.
I thought the same thing Wise after reading about this last year. I have put down a reserve on the graphic novel but it keeps getting delayed. Hopefully it will come out before the movie and we'll know. But just looking at Kosinski's visuals from the book that have shown up online he may take it in another direction. Plus, correct me if I'm wrong but I don't think Allita has anything to do with Aliens. I'm only in book three of that manga series though so I could be wrong.

I know I said it before but it just sounds so much like Battle Angel Alita. I hope not as I am anxiously looking forward to Cameron's adaptation after he's done with the AVATAR sequels. BA Alita being one of the handful of animes that I actually like
I'm also looking forward to this too even though I wasn't a big fan of Tron Legacy.
