Guardians of the Galaxy Casting Update

Carrey and Sandler?

By Robert T. Trate     January 23, 2013
Source: Collider.com

With the Guardians of the Galaxy being the next big Hollywood ensemble cast, everyone is auditioning for roles. Director James Gunn has his pick of leads right now to launch the next big Marvel franchise. Yet, there has been news that at least two big Hollywood actors are now auditioning for the film. Collider.com and Latino Review (see story) are reporting that Jim Carrey and Adam Sandler are now in the fray for parts.

Yep.

As we come back from that long pause we have to take into consideration that at least two of the Guardians will be CGI or enhanced with special effects. They of course will be Rocket Raccoon and Groot (a giant talking tree). Carrey has proven himself in odd, make up heavy roles, like the Grinch. Sandler on the other hand? Well, he can act in cartoons.

What do you think Manics? Carrey or Sandler for Guardians of the Galaxy? Better yet ,how about both and for which role?

Carrey I can see doing Rocket Raccoon. The very thought of Adam Sandler's involvment has me rushing to "drop the kids off at the pool" or "pinch off a good hot steamy loaf".

Perhaps if Sandlef is limited to voicing one word. "Groot". Beyond that? No thanks

I agree with you guys. Adam Sandler can stick to doing his own movies, where he gets to pick the next hot Hollywood actress to feel up. Stay FAR away from our Marvel films!!

No doubt it's most probably (if true) for a comic relief role.Which leads to Raccoon.

I wouldn't be surprised if Carrey gets it. He has mo-cap experience with Christmas Carol. He could probably do mo-cap for Rocket Raccoon and provide the voice. He is the more talented of the two.

Sandler. uh..no.

Adam Sandler?  The very thought of him in any Marvel movie is a very bad joke!

Can't say that I would want them but I agree with most of you that Sandler gets the bigger NO.

What's with all the Sandler Hate?  He's not a bad actor, granted most of his roles are comedies, romantic and otherwise, produced by his own company, but they've all been successful and I got no problem with him stretching his wings by providing the voice of Rocket Racoon.  Certainly no more problem than I do with Carrey.

I didn't want this movie to get made.  After reading this, I actually want the concept expunged from our collective memory.  Get me that Men In Black thingy.  These casting choices speak volumes about the apparent tone of the script.  Is there a word stronger than campy?  This sounds with every press release more and more like a movie for 7 year olds.  If it is a stand alone, I can just choose to ignore it and people can drag their little snot monsters to go see it, no big deal, but if this is being done as a direct tie-in to the incredible Avengers universe Marvel studios has created, It's going to seem a lot like getting Kraft macaroni and cheese all over my prime rib.

I don't have any hate towards Sandler. I find some of his movies funny, especially Happy Gilmore. My kids loved Bedtime Stories. Waterby was funny. I just don't think he's right because well...he's Adam Sandler.

The problem is, he's only Adam Sandler. In every movie. His voice, etc...There is no dimension to his "acting". Which is probably why he didn't get the job as the Bear Jew in Inglorious Basterds.

Carrey on the other hand, despite his star power fading, can morph into different characters (see Christmas Carol). I will take Cable Guy and Truman Show over any Sandler movie.

This might be the next fail movie for Marvel.

Not that the acting or story might not be good but rather, who has that much interest for the GOTG? Sure there are fans but compare them to Hulk or Iron Man...no contest.

Unlest the other players are all superstars, this movie will most likelly failed.
