The Swiss artist renowned in the Sci-Fi community for his work on Alien has died. H.R. Giger recently suffered a fall, it was that injury that lead to his death. The artist was 74 years old. H.R. Giger’s artistry is a terrifying mix of technology and sexuality. It was that combination that lead director Alejandro Jodorowski to hire H.R. Giger for his Dune adaptation. That doomed collaboration lead H.R. Giger to meet Dan O’Bannon, the writer of "Alien". An Academy Award later for Visual Effects and the rest, they say, is history.
In an interview with Starlog Magazine, H.R. Giger spoke about his work and the people who liked it: "My paintings seem to make the strongest impression on people who are, well, who are crazy".
Those of us that have seen his work come to life, certainly did go crazy for it.
Mania’s thoughts and prayers go out to Giger family and friends.
