Hudgens Joins Machete Kills

From High School Musical to the Grindhouse

Source: Indie Wire

Vanessa Hudgens is running away from her "High School Musical" roots that made her name as fast she can. While she has lent her face to such tween-skewing fare as "Bandslam," "Beastly" and "Journey 2: The Mysterious Island," she's been just as eager to prove she's all grown up, appearing in "Sucker Punch" and signing on for movies like the gritty indie "Gimme Shelter," the serial killer flick "Frozen Ground" and of course, Harmony Korine's potentially amazeballs "Spring Breakers." And she continues to shake her wholesome Disney image.

The actress has confirmed on her website (via DigitalSpy because good lord, Hudgens' interwebs home has never crossed our browser history and never will) that she has joined Robert Rodriguez's eternally casting "Machete Kills" in the role of Cereza, which is the Spanish word for cherry. And that's all there is to know, really. Given the writer/director's operating style, it will probably be a quick wave at the camera before she's off screen again, but it's another name to put on what is going to be a very long credit scroll and tremendously crowded poster.
So just to recap, in addition to Hudgens, "Machete Kills" now stars Danny Trejo, Michelle Rodriguez, Demián Bichir, Amber Heard, Sofia Vergara, Zoe Saldana, Jessica Alba, Alexa Vega, Lady Gaga, Mel Gibson, William Sadler, the Avellan Twins and whoever else decides to swing by the set. No release date yet, but sometime in 2013 is pretty much guaranteed.

Thanks to Chopsaki for the submission.

I actually liked her in Sucker Punch...hey man, people gotta work and they gotta eat...RR is making sure of that. So if you're in Austin,TX before they finish casting....who knows?

One thing about RR it seems everybody enjoys working with him. Big stars can a bit part in his films for a few day's work and move on. I imagine the working enviornment on his sets are quite fun.

The first Machete was awesome.  Definitely in my top 25.

Machete was a horrible movie, the acting in it was less than decent.  I liked Planet Terror and Death Proof.  I know that most people preferred Planet Terror, but from a directing and dialogue stand point Death Proof was the better movie.  Rodriguez did great with Sin City stylistically, but serious a good director could get more out of Michael Madsen.  His wooden portrayal of Bruce's detective buddy in Sin City was just flat out crap.  I like Danny Trejo as much as the next guy, but he is no leading man.  I respect Rodriguez because he's Texan and that's where he shoots his movies, but the best movie ever shot in Texas is No Country for Old Men.  That movie epitomizes the struggles that both Texans and Mexicans have living near the border, plus stellar acting.

machete is not even on my list of shit films and  thats sad. thats how crapy this is. RR. is way more caplable of making good films, i think all that time he spent on donating his body for experimental medical and what not has finally taken it's toll. why bother with this garbage? who cares whos in it , its still big crap fest..
