'Incredible Hulk' director Louis Leterrier caused a stir when he dropped a certain Marvel Hero's name to G4 last week. Now Collider.com gets to the heart of the matter.
SPOILER WARNING: this article contains minor spoilers.
During his talk with G4TV's 'Attack of the Show', Leterrier made the following surprising proclamation: "In the 'Hulk' you might see Captain America himself."
However, Comics2Film saw a screening of the film on Monday night and among the four of us seated in the audience we could not spot any such appearance. We've heard from several readers who also failed to spot Cap at early screenings. So what gives?
Attending a press event for the international media, Collider.com asked Leterrier about his comment to G4.
"Wait, that’s crazy. Did I say that?" was the director's coy response but Collider pressed the issue.
"I knew…I threw one like this I was like let’s see how many pick it up," he said, confirming that any Captain America appearance in the movie is more an Easter Egg than a true cameo. Collider then asked the director to get more specific.
"No, I can’t. Otherwise it’s not fun. Are you crazy? It’s an Easter egg," was his response before finally relenting somewhat and offering, "It’s not like oh, it’s Captain America and it changes everything. It’s still a Hulk movie, but it’s really Captain America and it’s there, you’ll see. It’s the real deal. You have to look for it."
So, eagle-eyed fans, keep those peepers open when you watch the movie and tell us where to find Cap!
In the complete interview, Leterrier also talks about the crowd-pleasing appearance by the #1 box office star of the summer: Robert Downey Jr. and the seventy-plus minutes of footage that will appear on the Blu-ray release of the film.

Update: That's all pretty intriguing, but Leterrier told another website a different story about Captain America.
