For months, you will know that there has been a virtual flood of rumors surrounding Edward Norton and the latest released Marvel film, The Incredible Hulk. Tons of fan-led gossiping, media speculation and inside-Marvel sources have confirmed that there was animosity between Norton, Universal and Marvel on the final cut of the green superhero.

This has of course been fueled by Norton's continual absence in a lot of publicity marketing for the film, at least moreso than normally considered for a tent pole of this magnitude. Sure, he's done some interviews with some mediums but nowhere near the point that media outlets are used to, raising the questions on the future of Norton's involvement within the franchise should they want to do a sequel. Well, Anne Thompson over at her Variety blog has done a nice breakdown on what happened between Norton and the studios and why the tensions have been high.

To take a look at the backstory, click here.

Was Norton right to be angry here? Did Universal and Marvel have a point? Do you think this will affect any possible sequels? Share your thoughts below!

This shit is getting boring. Norton is a bitch, man up and get behind the damn camera if you want your cut to be made if not shut the fuck up and just do the fuckin picture, they paying millions son, millions!!! Don't whine like a little girl, boohoo boohoo I didn't get my cut and I'm not going to adversise the flick, Man up bitch!. Marvel is also a damn bitch, apparently they took this fool for a ride, shady fucks. They messin with Favreu also what the hell is Marvel thinkin, they've delivered 2 great super hero flicks and they fuckin around with the personnel. They better keep him for a sequel or Avengers, can't keep chaning Banners every fuckin time out.

What's sad is from the looks of it we won't get a director's cut, instead it will be damn outtakes, who wants that? I sure as hell dont, do it Daredevil style and put the mins in the movie.

I don't know about you peeps but this summer had the best comic movies in row, usually we'll get 1 good flick and 1 fuck up, but not this summer. Iron Man, Hulk, you know Hellboy 2 is gonna be nice and The Dark Knight is going to own all the shit ever created.
I'm lovin it son, lovin it!!!

Agreed. I walked out of Hulk thinking, "Wow...Marvel Studios is batting 2 for 2." I hope they don't let it get to their heads and start making stupid decisions. I'd hate to see them turn into another New Line.

Judging from the article, I can understand Norton's beef with the studio. Yeah, he seems to be a bit of a control freak, but when you're promised a certain amount of creative control by a studio it's completely reasonable to expect that promise to be kept. Marvel dicked him around a bit, which sucks, and as a result we're not sure if Norton will reprise his role as Banner.

This, combined with Marvel's lowballing of Favreau on Iron Man 2, is rather disturbing. Not only that, but they've apparently left RDJ out of the loop, as well. You'd think that after drilling two movies out of the proverbial park they'd realize what the proper course of action was for future movie production... apparently, they haven't.

The thing is, Norton was being professional about the whole thing, and whoever leaked the feud to the net is responsible for blowing everything up. Norton's issues were legit, and I wouldn't be surprised if it was Marvel trying to make them out to be unreasonable.

As for Marvel letting it get to their heads? If the Iron Man 2 stuff is on the level, it sounds like it has.

I think all parties here get some of the blame. BOTTOM LINE, Marvel never offered Norton final cut. Writers, actors and even producers sometimes want something in a film and when the final edit is out it doesn't make it. Marvel and Universal had their reasons for wanting a shorter, less emotional film, we knew that much.

I may be in the minority here and although I would love for Norton to comeback, if he doesn't and I don't think he will that won't be the end of the Hulk. But I think Marvel should go for a lesser known actor whose ego isn't as easily bruised as Norton's.

Marvel so far has been going with well known high profile actors and it has paid off but maybe for the Hulk they need something else.

By the way did anyone see the piece where Marvel is said to want Leo Dicaprio as their first choice for Captain America. Probably won't happen, DiCaprio has a busy schedule.

It's always a mess behind the scenes. Sometimes I wonder why exactly I want to be in that kind of hell.

This is a shotgun wedding of 3 guys: Marvel, Norton, and Universal. No good could come from it.

A good example of behind the scene chaos can be seen in Woody Allen's movie "Hollywood Ending," and Albert Brooks' "The Muse."

"It's an action movie."

"Yeah, they're not really making those anymore."

"What do you mean 'they're not making action anymore?' It's all they make! And here's a good one!"

Sounds to me that Marvel only wants to do things their own way. But they need to understand that there are people out there that are willing to go the extra mile.
IE: like Norton who are trying to help out.
If marvel, like new Line has there own way will fold one day and never come back on top of the market. the only reason they keep on going is because there is a big demand on Spiderman. Personally I have read some of the newer issues, they are not what they used to be.
DC is more forgiving and are willing to listen to what the actors have to say.
As much as I like the older comics of Spiderman, Hulk and Batman. One can tell that marvel needs to change their way before something serious happens. Hell, I want to see another Dare DEvil or a relaunch of it since it sucked smoke the first time.
Eletra also needs to be relaunched as well as some of the others.
Here's a note for Marvel: what you need to do is to listen to the actors or directors for a change. If your not going to listen to reason then go back to writing comics and leave the entertainment industry to the Perfessionals.
As a fan these films needs to be done right, the emotional core of all your charactors has to be heard. Edward is right by what he tried to do and you kicked him in the butt.
Your stubborn and you won't back down, one last thing. Spiderman showing his true self to the world was one big mistake.

Ever since The Departed I had thought about Matt Damon or Dicaprio for Captain America. Damon is a bit older don't know if he'll want to be in 3 acton movies, maybe if Marvel ends up with Pitt he can convince him.
Dicaprio would work also, beefs up a bit. Like u said, the dude is busy, isn't he doing the Atari's creator film and probably is attached to everything Scorscese is doing. Maybe they can get Scorscese for Captain America and then Leo would definitely sign for it.

By the way, any news on Del Toro doing Dr. Strange??

This can't be good. Why? 1). Marvel stated, at the beginning, that they wanted to do a
"Hulk" film the Marvel way. Like it or not, Ang Lee's "Hulk" simply did not measure up. It
was disjointed, had an uneven script, a bewildering climax, and zero chemistry between the
two leads. With this "Hulk," Marvel has an extremely talented cast who would have done the
franchise justice. Yet, Marvel seems to lack the collaborative spirit to turn this into a
major franchise. Marvel, LIGHTEN UP! 2).The preliminary box-office numbers are in, and,
frankly, they aren't pretty: $54.5 mil. is, I believe, the weekend take. Not too impressive, especially when you consider(and correct me if I'm wrong)that Lee's "Hulk"
did something like $60 mil. in its first weekend. 3).The old saying that, "there's no such
thing as bad publicity," is not always true. For some, the constant talk of in-fighting
may have proved to be a turn-off, or worse, led some to believe that the film was not good.
Nothing could be further from the truth. This "Hulk" was an excellent rendering of the comic, and I can't wait to se it again this week. Here's hoping that this won't be the last
of the big-screen "Hulk" films. Let's hope Marvel, Universal, and the cast-particularly
Norton-can come back together and continue to grow.

"The Incredible Hulk" was not as "Incredible" as some of you say, I saw it on Friday and felt that it was okay. If anything both "Hulk" movies have been subpar, Ang Lee's "Hulk" has always been criticized for being garbage, but I'll say this atleast there was character development. "The Incredible Hulk" was so much covered in action that the characters never had time to develop. I'm sorry but I side with Norton, he potentially saved this movie with making revisions to Zak Penn's script, and Penn isn't that good of a screenwriter to begin with, for example "Fanastic Four", "X3", and "Elektra". Marvel should've let Norton have a little more control in the final cut, we're talking about a guy that has worked on movies such as "Fight Club", "Rounders", "The Red Dragon", and "American History-X". What has Louis Leterrier done? Transporter? Come on! Transporter was good, but it's just like the same problems with "Transformers" we're suppose to sit for 2 hrs and watch all action scenes. I'd like some more dialogue with this Hulk movie, and I truly believe that Norton would have given it to us. As far as the summer goes, yes "Iron Man" was great, "Hellboy 2" should be good, and "The Dark Knight" should be a no-brainer, but I can't in good conscious say this Hulk movie was one of the best superhero adaptations I've ever seen. If any movie I predict that can be a great superhero movie, I'd say "Hancock" might impress a lot of people.
