Hurd manages RED MARS

ALIENS, TERMINATOR and HULK producer Gale Anne Hurd has her sights set on a new horizon: Mars. More specifically, Kim Stanley Robinson's RED MARS.

Hurd will serve as executive producer on The Sci-Fi Channel's six-hour mini-series adaptation of Robinson's novel, who will also get credited as a consultant on the show. The script for the mini is being written by Gregory Widen (THE PROPHECY, HIGHLANDER).

Robinson's RED MARS tells the story of the first human colonists on the red planet and the polical, social and environmental ramifications that result. The book is followed by GREEN MARS and then BLUE MARS and takes place over the span of a few decades as the world is terraformed to be more like Earth.

The mini-series is expected to play on the Channel in late 2004.
