Hurd says INCREDIBLE HULK 2 still on the table

Norton is under contract for a sequel and the producer wants to do one

When 'The Incredible Hulk' debuted this summer, fans agreed that it is a vast improvement over the character's previous big screen outing. However, movie audiences seemed no more interested in the redo as box office tallies were virtually identical for both movies.

The under-performance of the film, directed by Louis Leterrier and starring Edward Norton, left the prospect of a sequel uncertain. However, Gale Anne Hurd, who produced both movies recently told MTV that she aims to make another one that would see Norton return to the role.

"It's all going to depend on the screenplay and where his character goes in any sequel, because [Norton] does have a multiple-picture deal," she said.

It should come as no surprise to fans who saw the first movie that a follow-up could involve Hulk's comic book nemesis The Leader. The character was ably set up by actor Tim Blake Nelson, who played a quirky scientist who becomes exposed to Banner's freak DNA and starts to mutate in one scene of the movie.

"When I think of all the many, many, many villains in the Hulk universe, we've now done the Abomination, so wouldn't it be great to tackle the Leader?" It's a completely different type of cerebral villain, which would give the movie a terrific new take on the character," Hurd told MTV. "It would be a blast, and Tim Blake Nelson is tremendous and a very talented filmmaker in his own right."

Of course, fans expect Hulk to appear in the 2011 'Avengers' movie. Hurd concurs that that's the most likely place we'll see Hulk next. In that weird world of Marvel synergy, it's unclear as to whether or not Hurd will be involved with that movie, even though she's attached to the film rights of the character. At this point Marvel has not discussed the prospect with her.

Hurd, a fan of the Hulk since her early years, also said she's happy to wait until the time is right for the follow up.

What do you think? What should the storyline be for the Hulk sequel? Post your comments below...

I enjoyed Incredible Hulk, it deserves a sequel. If they can make two crappy Fantastic Four movies I think the Hulk deserves another shot. The only problem is they weakened the Hulk, the more he get's angry the stronger he is supposed to get. We need some real "Hulk Smash" scenes in the next movie, if it's another Hulk movie or the Avengers.

Ahem, the next one should Incredible Hulk 3. Dont care if a few people think the FIRST ONE was bad! Cause it wasnt that bad at all.<br />

This deserves another one. Less thunderbolt ross involvement if any, maybe a fight scene that takes place in multiple locations as hulk can jump hundreds of miles with each jump. Maybe a Wendigo fight/opening scene since he's in Canada or a Wolverine battle to kick it off? yeah right Fox studios...Either way, the leader just doesnt sound to thrilling. The last scene of the Hulk movie clearly showed banner controlling his hulk outs, that should be a main point, maybe a smart hulk? Give him a villan like the absorbing man or the wrecking crew. The Leader would have to do something big in order for the hulk to get involved. The leader would have to take over a nations entire military or something, take control from T.Bolt Ross and Hulk hands the leader his ass on a silver platter and Ross kisses his golly green giant of an ass?

UATU watches...the incredible hulk one more time...

I'd love another movie, and I think the Leader would be a great villian, but he might look silly.  Plus he'd have to have someone to do his dirty work for him.  Maybe another character for him to control and take on the Hulk.

Maybe I'm just too much of a Comic Geek or something, but here's my synopsis.

Avengers Movie:

Banner learns to control the hulk to be of good use.  HE joins the Avengers to help against the 5 rings.  In the process the Leader, unknown to anyone, takes over Hulk's mind and makes him do his bidding.  They defeat the 5 rings but, then must bring down the Hulk who is on an incredible rampage of destruction via The Leader's mind control.  The movie ends with the climatic battle between the Avengers and Hulk where Banner reveals that he was not in control of Hulk and felt like someone was in his head.

Hulk Sequel:

This leads to the Hulk sequel where Hulk takes on the Leader who by then has successfully produced the Humanoids to take over the world and has recruited The Chameleon to capture Hulk for experimentation.  A couple of Avenger cameos to fight the Humaniods and you got a great film.

UATU, the Hulk leaping hundreds of miles in one shot?let hi fight the Absorbing Man? that was ang Lee's movie  i enjoyed it but i think what the Banner/Hulk needs is to join The Avengers and we'll see him in 2011, then during that summer release Incredible Hulk 2 like they did with iron Man and hulk coming out the following month.

I'll say that since they've already introduced The Leader, they should at least feature him in the next flick even if he isnt the main villain.

weformindarkness 10/25/2008 12:44:49 PM

I'm all for another Hulk film. I'm all for The Leader being the main villian, and I'm certainly all for a (somewhat) smart Hulk and an opening action scene against something akin to Wendigo...but there's something there that could make these a lot interesting.

Hulkbusters. Giant Awesomesauce robots developed by Tony Stark. As soon as I heard he was showing up in TIH I figured that might be what Stark was setting up...keep in mind this was before I saw IRON MAN and the Nick Fury scene. I like the idea of Hulk fighting robots specifically made to subdue him, ESPECIALLY if they're unprepared for a smarter version of Hulk.

...and while I'm sharing my Marvel feelings, I'd hate for the Hulk to be the main villian in The Avengers movie. I wouldn't mind there being an altercation before or after their fight with someone like Ultron...but I'd like the Hulk to at least appear heroic for the most part. Maybe Loki can create some internal havoc within the team making everyone untrusting of the Hulk? Perhaps Banner can delve deeper into his rage in order to be strong enough to stop the big bad, and the consequence of that action is a loss of control? I don't know, I just don't want a movie where the entire time Hulk is the number one target.

I wouldn't mind seeing another Hulk movie. IThe last one was really great and far better than the first one. (Although, I would have rather have seen a real person play the Hulk than a CGI one. While it looks great in The Inredible Hulk, you can still tell it's fake.)

But I don't want to see a smart Hulk. In fact, if it was up to me, in the last scene of The Incredible Hulk, where you see Banner's eyes change, the screen should have gone to black and we hear Banner happily saying, "I've done it! I can control it!" But you hear a change in his voice and he says, "No, no I can't." And then you hear the Hulk roar and say, "Puny Banner, Hulk is strongest of all."

That is how they should have ended the movie.

But the next movie should have some more action and I wouldn't mind seeing the Avengers. But having a smart Hulk wouldn't make him the misunderstood monster that we all know and love. And I'm not sure about having the Leader. I know they set it up, but it might be too silly. You don't want to kill the franchise again.

Norton's Hulk didn't even look like the Hulk lol.

Rifle86 10/25/2008 11:19:31 PM

Respect to ang lee's version Louis Letteriers/ Edwin Norton (He Wrote Some Parts Come on Give Credits) version was way better Why? let me tell you though in the first hulk was a monster to be reckoned with he seemed more like a little kid being nurtured by Betty Ross. What I like most about this one is that the Hulk in some way is in control of Banner, but Banner constantly tries to strengthen himself every time he thinks about Betty because he remembers when he first became the Hulk he unintentionally hurt Betty. As far as for Captain Americas Shield in the Incredible Hulk I seen the new opening so many times yet still havent seen it. For a Sequel have whomever the villain may be ,but at some point have Robert Downey Jr convince ThunderBolt Ross to set up a meeting between Tony Stark, and Bruce Banner and have three Marvel cameos You guys Ready? S.H.I.E.L.D Nick fury ( Samuel L. Jackson), People are suggesting for Capatin America ( Brad Pitt) besides Brad and Edward built their friendship in Fight Club, And Thor ( Triple H). Nick Fury talks about how theres this new threat bigger and more dangerous than anyone can Imagine and the only way to stop this thing is to assemble ( The Avengers) Captain America of course the leader and the rest also bringing in Wolverine. But before The Avengers movie the remaining unseen Characters have to make their movies correct? correct So let marvel do what it does best instead of pressuring till they make the biggest mistake and have true fans in an upset.
