It didn't take long for the sequel discussion to begin with I Am Legend bringing in loads of cash for Warner Bros. An anonymous souce over at the studio has told Ryan Rotten that author Richard Matheson has signed off on sequel rights for the studio. Obviously, we don't know when (or if) this means a sequel anytime soon. It just means that if they have the right story and the principal parties agree to come back, they have an official "go" from the source author on the material.

I Am Legend hit theaters on Dec 14, pulling in 77.2 million on 3,606 theaters in its debut. It has gone on to gross 206.1 mil domestically and another 126.0 mil overseas, which has it at 332.1 in just 19 days of release.

WHAT!? WHY??

A prequel with Will Smith or a new character in that human colony that will lead the fight against the dark seekers?

Ha!

Saw this from a mile away. This one won't be getting any of my money.

While I can't say I'm surprised at this news, I doubt we'll ever see a sequel. Audiences connected with Robert Neville and getting the audience to connect with another character won't be as interesting. A prequel could be interesting about the virus's first outbreak, but I think enough of that backstory was covered in I Am Legend.

Well, this is obviously a money grab. They don't need to make I Am Legend 2: Electric Boogaloo

Ok.... Why? Oh nevermind, its warner brothers, those fuckers will whore anything and anyone, even their mothers

LOTRSUXS--lol! I can't agree more. Just wait I'm sure the other studios will be coming out with rip off versions of this movie in one way or another. They'll try a different angle on the last man on earth deal just because of the money this movie has made.

I don't know why anyone would be surprised by this. Any movie that pulls in the kind of money IAL has would most likely get the sequel treatment, regardless of what studio was behind it. And a sequel could take place anywhere on the planet, could be new characters or like mentioned above a prequel. I just don't see Smith returning for this.

HEY GUYS! I got a great idea, they could make a sequel that takes place in LA and ACTUALLY follows the source material. They could avoid all of the setup, Using this movie as the setup, then follow the tale of a factory worker coping with his place as "the last man on earth" as far as he knows. To put the cherry on the top, it could have the same ending as the book, making it a great sequel on par with or better than it's predecessor. The whole sequel could just be a faithful adaption of the source material, with a few tweaks. ie, rename the character to whaterver Vincent Price character's name was , Morgan, I think it was.

LMAO almostunbiased.
that was rich.
Yeah, I Am Legend needs a sequel about as bad as Schindlers List. Sweet jeebus. Why dont they get Rendezvous With Rama in gear...
