I AM LEGEND Still Shooting??

The Warner Bros. production of I AM LEGEND, based on the best selling Richard Matheson novel, seems to be a high profile project for the parties involved here. So, why have we seen only two trailers for this film and little information about it compared to other productions? Well, apparently they're still shooting the film even if it comes out just a month and a week from now...

Here's what an inside source has to say on the project:

Will Smith has been filming the ending to "I Am Legend" in New Jersey this week. He's in Mt. Airy, a small Hunterdon County village set amid the rolling farms and hills of Central New Jersey. The local school parking lot just down the road is full of trailers and equipment. And some of the local folks are serving as extras.

Apparently the film crew showed up pretty suddenly, not a whole lot of warning to the locals. When they finish up in Mt. Airy, they'll be going to South Carolina for a bit more filming.

I AM LEGEND hits theaters December 14, 2007.

GOOD! Maybe there is still time to recast the part. I wonder if Chris Tucker is available, as he would be about as believable as an action star as Smith is.

Strange... but I still can't wait... and Will Smith is an action star, and a damn good one...

"Is he having a laugh?, Is he having a laugh? Are you having a laugh?"
But seriously, that`s just stupid. Will Smith is no Denzel Washington, but I would say that they are just different in their acting styles. Will Smith is definitely an action star , a damn good one. I would even go as far to say that Will Smth is just as good as Tom Cruise, in action movies. The only difference is that Will is funny and does comedy in non action movies where as Cruise takes on more serious roles. I`d like Smith to take on something a little more serious eventually, but he has lots of time.

Smith in "serious" roles:
Pursuit of Happyness
Ali
Six Degrees of Separation

There may be more but those are off the top of my head. He is more of a comedy / action star, but he can do the serious roles as well. Pluse, he seems like a decent guy off screen.

Pnyboy...The Pusuit of Happyness? That was a damn good movie. Will Smith is a very talented actor. Can do drama, action, comedy, and he knows that Parents Just DOn't Understand. I can not wait for I am Legend, it looks amazing.

Also, back in the "Fresh Prince" days, Smith had a part in a movie called "Where The Day Takes You", part of an ensamble cast about life on the streets. He played a kid on the streets in a wheel chair. If you have't seen it, watch it. Great movie.

I'm really looking forward to this movie. However, most times I hear about a film still being shot this late in the game it's usually for re-shoots and that's not a good sign. Trying to fix something this late and rush through it could be difficult. I'm just speculating, hopefully they'll get it right.

It's not unusual for films to be shooting pickups a few months before release. One month seems to be pushing it...

Is it just me, or does it seem to me that this gives away the ending? If it's genuine, that means there are other people around at the end of the movie, which means he finds a cure. I suppose the locals could be playing mutants (or zombies or whatever you want to call them). But I would think they would use SAG members as extras for something like that. Locals-as-extras seems like normal background folk to me.

Smith is a fine actor in my book (Book of Monkeyfoot, available at fine stores everywhere). And if he's been nominated twice for an Oscar I imagine his industry must must think somewhat nicely of him. Plus, He is one of the few actors today whose movies large amounts of filmgoers will go see soley because he is in it.

If they're shooting the 'ending' of the movie at this point, it could be a pickup, but it's more likely a reshoot. There could have been some bad response on early screenings.
