Actor Ian McShane has joined the film, DEATH RACE, for director Paul W.S Anderson & Universal Pictures. This is a remake of the Roger Corman directed cult classic Death Race 2000. The actor will be playing a coach for one of the "Death Racers" in the contest of destruction on the highways. He joins Jason Statham, Joan Allen and Tyrese Gibson who star in the film.

Plot Summary: A Prison Warden (Joan Allen) forces inmates to compete in a very brutal race in a future America. Statham will play a prisoner who, with only weeks to go before his release, is coerced into being a driver and becomes the crowd favorite called Frankenstein. He's racing against a sociopathic racer named Machine Gun Joe (Tyrese Gibson) who's seeking to escape from prison himself.

DEATH RACE will hit theaters September 26, 2008.

Fast & the Furious meets the Transporter. This film can't miss! ;) The only thing I'm curious about is, who will be the other fodd-er..drivers?

I wonder how many swear words McShane will get a chance to say in this movie. I loved him on Deadwood. Boo to HBO for not making a follow up movie. If they can do it for Sex and the City, why not Deadwood?

This movie will be total escapism and popcorn fun, which is pretty much what I want. I hope they keep the flavor of the original, but even if not, I am sure it will be a fun ride. Just keep it a Hard R.

I'm sure McShane will be calling all of the drivers c--ksuckers sometime during the movie. With all of these driving movies Statham does (and I'm definitely a fan of his work), I wonder what he likes to drive when he's not in front of a camera. Wouldn't it be funny if he drove a minivan? I doubt this will be a good movie (because PWSA is directing), but it will be a fun ride (for the same reason) regardless.

This doesn't sound like the original. Wasn't Frankenstein a veteran driver rumored to have been injured/disfigured and made a return? All this does is make Jason the same character he plays in every film.

Statham's a man's man. I can see him driving a hardcore vintage Porsche or something...

I love McShane's work!

IMHO all "fodder" drivers should drive Prius's.
