With under a month to go before his next picture opens in theaters, director Roland Emmerich (THE DAY AFTER TOMORROW) is making some news by teaming up with his former business associate on a new thriller. ANTHEM is the title of the project that Emmerich and his INDEPENDENCE DAY co-writer/producer Dean Devlin are developing for Columbia Pictures. As was the case on ID4, both gentlemen wrote the script together and will produce the film for Columbia but an injection of fresh blood, namely in the form of a screenwriter to give the script a polish, is being sought.
ANTHEM is a political thriller involving what happens when an impeached President of the United States refuses to surrender his position of leadership. Somehow the President's situation is tied up with a lone FBI agent that has discovered a conspiracy that threatens the fabric of the country's Constitution.
ANTHEM would be a joint co-production between Emmerich's Centropolis Entertainment and Devlin's Electric Entertainment companies.
