WINNER: Most WANTED Maniacs Giveaway - Nov 28, 2008 - 04:37pm
Good, GOOD question. My co-ed Fraternity would be:
Samwise the Hobbit. He would make sure that I did not fail, and if it looked like I was going to fail, he would continue for me.
Wonder Woman, al la Lynda Carter. You never know when that truth-telling lasso would come in handy.
Kahlan Amnell from the Sword of Truth novels. Best power EVER.
pre-Betrayal Jacen Solo. He can handle pain and he is ever vigilant.
and finally, River Tam. Yes, she might be a bit of a loose cannon, but if I can point that cannon in the right direction and let 'er loose, she could do some serious damage.
C2F BLAST: HULK VS., IRON MAN 2, X-MEN 3 and more - Nov 28, 2008 - 04:32pm
As a huge fan of the Dark Phoenix story line from way back when, I would have LOVED to see this done more faithfully. Who knows if that would have actually happened.
TV REVIEW- HEROES: The Eclipse Part 1 - Nov 27, 2008 - 11:16am
This is a show that I totally missed due to timing (my daughter had just been born) and I vowed that rather try to play a weird catch up game in re runs, I would just hold out until I could watch the whole darn thing on DVD.
TV REVIEW- SWTCW Episode: Bombad Jedi - Nov 23, 2008 - 03:15pm
I haven't caught this ep yet and now i'm really looking forward to it. At first I thought the series creators were mad for bringing back Jar Jar, but this review makes me feel positive about this ep.
The 10 Best Sci-Fi Films Never Made - Nov 22, 2008 - 10:59am
Maybe some day, some one will do a film of Snow Crash...and, NOT F IT UP. Has anyone here read "Down and Out in The Magic Kingdom?" In it, there's a fleeting reference to Walt Disney World having a Snow Crash parade to celebrate it's new animated feature.
TOY MANIAC: Call of Duty: World at War - Nov 20, 2008 - 11:46am
Man, when I was growing up every birthday from 1977 - 1983 I would get to pick out any Star Wars toy I wanted. The Moisture Farm would have completed my universe.
WB Unleashes New Trailer for HALF-BLOOD PRINCE - Nov 16, 2008 - 01:49pm
This could work, this film could really, REALLY work, but once again I'm concerned about shoving a book that dense into a film that's under 2 hours. Wow, this is bringing back memories of when I read this book 8 months pregnant sitting on a lounge chair on Catalina Island.
Toy Maniac: Secrets Revealed About SDCC Exclusives - Nov 13, 2008 - 11:39am
Has anyone heard any reviews of Lightsaber Duels? My sister just got a Wii and this seems like it would be right up her alley. And Christmas is coming...
Ratner Confirms Next Project as CONAN - Nov 08, 2008 - 01:50pm
I'm getting tired of relaunches. I mean, some of them have turned out to be really good. But aren't there enough genre books, graphic novels, comics, even VIDEO GAMES for Pete's sake, that have yet to be explored? Still, I've been surprised before and I may be surprised again - maybe this new Conan will be good.
STAR WARS: THE CLONE WARS: Rookies - Oct 26, 2008 - 01:44pm
On the topic of Lucas changing over the years - pop in Empire and listen, REALLY LISTEN, to the dialogue between Han and Leia. Then pop in Attack of the Clones and listen to the dialogue between Anakin and Padme. No comparison. I am not dissing the new TV series. Nor am I disparaging the second trilogy. There are merits to both of them. I'm just saying that to me at least, it is perfectly obvious that Lucas has changed in the way he makes films. Shoot, go rent THX 1138 and compare it to anything he's done post 1990. It's hard to believe it's the same filmmaker.
SPOILER ALERT-Scream 2008 Awards Honor the Best in Horror, Sci-Fi and Fantasy - Oct 21, 2008 - 02:15pm
In defense of DearhHeart, when he posted that comment, the title did NOT read Spoiler Alert, and the 1st two words of the article were NOT Spoiler Alert. Someone at Mania must have read his comment and done something about it. This has been a public service announcement.
Will AVENGERS take down HULK? - Oct 21, 2008 - 11:10am
I dunno...I for one would love to see an Ultimates film, but I think it might be too far off the mainstream path for Hollywood to take a chance on it.
KNIGHT RIDER Picked Up for Full Season - Oct 21, 2008 - 11:07am
Better than BSG? In the name of all that is holy....were we watching the same show? I watched about 7 minutes of Knight Rider and almost threw up. Heck, if you're enjoying the show, by all means, watch it, TiVo it, DVR it, whatever, man. But for me, it was like "That's 7 minutes of my life I'm not getting back." Bring on the BSG.
Eric Stoltz Hitches on to CAPRICA - May 12, 2008 - 10:34am
I really admire Stolz's work, but it's so difficult to really pull off a prequel. Knowing the outcome, even if it's something that happens far in the future, deadens a lot of the emotions I would normally feel for the characters. Not saying that it's impossible, by any means, but it's so hard to pull it off well.
Top SF Awards - Mar 24, 2008 - 02:35pm
I've got to admit, that Seeker's Guide To Harry Potter sounds interesting.
Producers Answer LOST Questions - Mar 04, 2008 - 01:30pm
Every other question was actually a cast member asking "Am I going to be killed off?" and the writers answering, "Just don't get caught with a DUI."
Abrams Updates CLOVERFIELD 2 & TREK - Feb 24, 2008 - 02:23pm
I just get nervous when anyone takes on too many things at once. Look at what happened to Alias when Lost started. TANKED. Or historically, look what happened to the Disney animated films when Walt got distracted by Disneyland. I don't want to see J. J. get so busy that he can't concentrate on what he's doing at the moment.
Abrams Updates CLOVERFIELD 2 & TREK - Feb 23, 2008 - 02:15pm
I will get excited about a J. J. Dark Tower IF and only IF he manages to do a good job with Trek. Period.
HD STAR TREK Teaser Online - Jan 21, 2008 - 02:20pm
Okay, while I may have my doubts for the film itself, I LOVE the fact that the teaser poster uses the original type face.
New DARK KNIGHT IMAX Featurette - Nov 25, 2007 - 03:45pm
I'm not sure about that, Silent. I think Nolan knows what he's doing with this Imax thing.
Jackman Training for WOLVERINE Action - Oct 06, 2007 - 03:20pm
Pffft. I love Jackman as Logan. The problems I had with X3 had nothing to do with his performance!
DARK KNIGHT Crew Member Killed - Sep 26, 2007 - 03:25pm
Rest in peace, whoever you were. Prayers and good thoughts to his family.
Billingsley, Nordling Cast for Fox's 24 - Aug 31, 2007 - 03:15pm
three reasons why I'm glad the show is not set in LA, even though I live in LA:
1) Traffic. They used to shoot downtown a lot and it made my commute a biy-atch.
2) Threat level. I was getting tired of every terrorist in the world wanting to attack in LA, of all places.
3) Realism. I was getting sick of seeing Jack get from West Los Angeles to the Deep Valley in 5 minutes, at 4:00 PM.
Uhura Beams On Board HEROES - Aug 14, 2007 - 03:35pm
Okay, just another reason why I should buy the DVD's of the previous season and finally jump on this bandwagon. Sigh. Just what I need in my life - MORE TV!
First Look at Burton's SWEENEY TODD - Aug 12, 2007 - 03:20pm
When I first heard about this, I was so stoked. As a huge fan of both Burton and Sondheim, I thought this was a match made in Heaven.
But, I still have a tiny queasy feeling in the pit of my stomach. As a classical singer, I've heard enough sopranos warbling through Green Finch and Linnet Bird to know that Sondheim's genius can be easily unraveled in the wrong hands.
I really do think that Burton's hands are the right ones, and I'm holding out hope that this adaptation of Sondheim's masterpiece will be succesful!
"His skin was pale and his eye was odd."
New Ad Campaign for 1-18-08? - Jul 24, 2007 - 03:13pm
When you listen to the original teaser, doesn't someone in the background say something about a huge lion? Maybe it's Voltron.
Lee & Murphy Find OTHER SIDE - Jul 17, 2007 - 03:13pm
Oh, yeah, Dr. Christmas Snow, nuclear scientist. That was ENTIRELY plausible.
Eckhart Confirms DARK KNIGHT Rumors - Jul 16, 2007 - 03:25pm
This is shaping up to sound like a frakking awesome sequel. I'm very excited! I sure hope we can find a good baby sitter for opening night!
Magneto Helmet Replica from X-MEN III - Jun 08, 2007 - 03:30pm
Will this block out all the psychichic suggestions I've been getting to buy that stupid R2-D2 trash can? Just wondering.
Actors Sue New Line over LOTR - Jun 07, 2007 - 03:39pm
When I first saw the title of the article, I was thinking that the MAJOR actors would have been suing. Now, Ian Holm or someone of his stature suing New Line would have been a shock. But this is kind of weak. $22 million for playing the King of The Dead? Dude, relax. I don't know what that guy got paid in his contract, but I'll bet he was compensated very well.
R2-D2 Trash Can - Jun 04, 2007 - 03:24pm
$125 for ANY trash receptacle is not acceptable unless it turns dirty diapers into gold.
SIMS Moving to Big Screen - May 26, 2007 - 03:14pm
I am stunned. What a horrible idea. Let me tell you that I am a huge Sims player, and have to dragged away from my computer to stop playing it. But a movie? These guys are on crack.
Aaron Eckhart talks "The Dark Knight" - Feb 28, 2007 - 01:55pm
I am very excited for this film! I loved Batman Begins and hope that it's at least as good as that one.
"Battlestar Galactica" renewed for 4th season - Feb 14, 2007 - 01:26pm
It did get Emmy nominations in the past, but typical sci-fi ones like effects and sound. It deserves to be recognized as a drama, and it upsets me that it never does get that recognition.
J.J. Abrams may not direct "Star Trek XI" - Feb 05, 2007 - 12:38pm
After Insurrection and Nemesis, I'm not holding my breath for a good Trek film. I'll reluctantly give J.J. a chance.
Eric Roberts joins "Heroes" - Jan 23, 2007 - 04:35pm
Wait a minute, which Dr. Who? I'm catching up on Heroes and didn't see the last episode. Was it Eccleston?
"Dresden Files" to be paired with "Battlestar Galactica" - Jan 10, 2007 - 12:05pm
Pairing Dresden with BSG is very good planning. But I've got to say, as a dedicated TiVo user, that it won't make one bit of difference to me.
J.J. Abrams says "Star Trek XI" in 2008 - Dec 14, 2006 - 11:44am
I enjoy JJ's work, so I'll be willing to give this a try. I am, and always have been, a Trekker, but I was disappointed in Nemesis. I'm going into this with an open mind.
News that Jackson still directing "Hobbit" false - Nov 29, 2006 - 12:00pm
To put it simply, it is in New Line's financial best interest to have PJ direct this. I predict that they will quickly settle this lawsuit so that he can. Here's to hoping.
Early CASINO Reviews - Nov 16, 2006 - 12:01pm
Can't see this on Friday because I couldn't get a sitter, but I'm definitely going to see this one and form my own opinion!
Darth Maul - Nov 16, 2006 - 11:59am
Okay, let's place bets as to what this will retail for! I'm going to guess, um, $70.
Good, GOOD question. My co-ed Fraternity would be: Samwise the Hobbit.
