IFC has picked up the distribution rights to the Hong Kong offbeat cop thriller MAD DETECTIVE, says The Hollywood Reporter. Directors Johnnie To and Wai Ka-fai premiered the film at the Toronto & Venice film festivals and IFC liked the buzz for it. The studio plans to distribute the film in theaters and VOD through its First Take day-and-date program.

Plot Concept: Lau Ching-wan plays the title character, a loopy police inspector who solves cases by seeing a suspect's inner "ghosts." After a long absence from the force for mental-health reasons, he is brought back to track down a missing officer.

American directors should just make their movies using all foreigners and just dub it in English, claim it as a foreign film then all the critics will rave about it regardless wether is pure crap or not.
