Iggy Pop and Sean Penn have joined aboard the English translated version of Majrane Satrapi's graphic novel, PERSEPOLIS. The adaptation of her graphic novel is autobiographical in nature centering on her family's oppressive life under the mullahs in Iran. Marjane wrote the comic book while staying in her new home in France.
Over the past few months, this animated take on her graphic novel has caused a stir while raising eyebrows at the Canne Festival. It drew the ire of Iran who deemed the whole film festival as "Islamophobia". They also pressured the Bangkok Film Festival to drop it from its lineup after exacting pressure on them.
Sean Penn will voice Satrapi's father in the English version of the animation while Iggy Pop will play her Uncle. Chiara Mastroianni who voiced Satrapi's character in the french version of the film will play her again in the English version.
