Ilan Eshkeri is quickly emerging as one of the hottest new composers in the business. Close on the heels of Hannibal Rising, the latest film in the Hannibal Lecter series, Eshkeri has been hired to compose the music for Stardust, the film version of Neil Gaman’s fantasy novel, starring Claire Danes, Robert De Niro and Michelle Pfeiffer and with Ian McKellen doing the narration. Matthew Vaughn, with whom Eshkeri worked on Layer Cake, directs the film which is scheduled to premier on July 27.

Eshkeri, who started out in the business working for composers Hans Zimmer, Edward Shearmur and the late Michael Kamen, also has FilmFour’s thriller Straightheads, starring Gillian Anderson, coming up, and he has also composed the score for Virgin Territory (previously known as Decameron: Angels and Virgins) for  producer Dino De Laurentiis. Hannibal Rising, for the same producer, premieres in the US on February 9.
