Marvel Studios has set Industrial Light + Magic to be the principal visual effects house for IRON MAN.

Marvel Studios' president of production Kevin Feige said, "We are thrilled to partner with Industrial Light + Magic on IRON MAN. The visual effects expertise they bring to this project fit perfectly with the high-tech look and feel of this film."

The Jon Favreau directed film hits theaters in May 2008.

George Lucas says Iron Man isn't silly, unlike Spider-Man, because ILM is supplying the special effects. And BTW...he's only attacking Spider-Man because he's still pissed at John Dykstra (Spider-Man's FX coordinator) for jumping ship on ILM, and doing the special effects and production design for the original Battlestar Galactica!!!

Seeing what ILM has done with the Transformers so far has reminded people that ILM is the best in the biz. It'll look great.
WETA, you're on notice!

WETA has nothing to fear as far as ILM is concerned...As a matter of fact alot of people that were working for Lucas are now working for Jackson and for good reason, they have some say and creative input as apposed to working for Lucas and have no say what so ever...ILM was the leading FX house in the world for a long time there but now there are FX houses everywhere and I believe WETA is leading that pack... With all the money Jackson is investing into his companies I think it has put him at the top with great artist working for him...

Great cast, a director who respects the character's history, great looking armor and now ILM handling the effects...wow! My expectations for this movie just keep growing. I can't wait to see a trailer.

MetalWatero, I think Lucas was just being facetious.

"And Iron Man, all jets aflame, he fights and fights with repulsor rays!"
Great cast, great director, great FX house. Though actually, you'd have to be on a very limited budget these days not to find a good FX house.

I'm biased towards ILM, but WETA is just as good. ILM was the grandaddy of all modern FX houses and laid the groundwork for everyone else. Both effect houses do awesome work. Let's not turn this into one of those immature "my dad is better than your dad" arguments.

The competition has been getting tougher for ILM. Before its win for POTC Dead Man's Chest, it hadn't won an Oscar since Gladiator. I think it is more that other visual effects companies are getting better than ILM is getting worse. ILM needed to get a big movie to stay competitive. I agree that Lucas is biased toward movies that were done by ILM vs those that were not. Although John Dykstra didn't work on Spiderman 3, the precedent he set in the first two movies was followed by those who worked on it.

Maybe Lucas can get Hiro from Heroes to work for him on this movie. That would be cool.
