Being the one who almost let the cat out of the bag before Capcom's recent confirmation of Dead Rising 2, Capcom Japan's lead producer Keiji Inafune has a lot of love for his title Dead Rising, which hit the Xbox 360 in 2006. So, when it comes to the sequel, he has a lot of interest in it even if the development has been farmed out to Canadian-developer Blue Castle.
While appearing in the Bionic Commando podcast (via Joystiq), lead producer Inafune talked briefly about the upcoming zombie sequel and the new developers.
"[Blue Castle Games] really understood the Japanese flavor that made Dead Rising so unique," Inafune said. "They showed me that they are serious about making a game that keeps that Capcom 'spice' intact, and so far it's going very well."
Inafune went on to say that the game will be developed from a "global perspective," and called the level of East and West cooperation "unprecedented" for Capcom. As for actual details, Inafune remained coy on the sequel.
He did say that the new main character (currently called "NotFrank" by the gaming community) is "much more interesting" than Frank West. Blue Castle also wants to keep the time management aspect of the original intact, but with a much larger variety of mission objectives.
Dead Rising 2 will be a multi-platform release for the Xbox 360, PS3, and PC.
I loved Dead Rising. I'm hoping for two things in the sequel: online co-op play and a major decrease in the load times!
