MrEt - just for the sake of argument, consider this - yes, Area 51 had the ship since 1947...but it wasn't until the aliens invaded that it's systems became active and they were learning anything new from it.  So yes, they had it for 49 years and didn't learn a damn thing because they couldn't figure out how to turn it on...but once it turned on, it was stated that they'd been learning all kinds of things about the ship and about them.  So it COULD be argued that in the following years after the invasion, they were able to continue learning from it, and might have been able to turn the ship on again.  Just saying.  It's not perfect, and I don't like it either, but there you go, one plothole "solved."

This movie will go down as one of the best trailers/worst movie ever.

I remember seeing the trailer for this and it was stunning. After seeing it in the theatres, totally letdown.

The original even though it had Smith as the headliner it was really  more of an ensemble piece. The original has become something of a cult classic. Making it more than just a " Will Smith" movie. So as long as you have a strong cast with members from the original along with some recognizable but fresh faces You really don't need Smith's baggage or his price tag.

I would like a sequel that Emmerick is not involved in. Will Smith will not sign on so there would be no point in making the movie.

Maybe Bill Pullman's character is now Secretary General of the United Nations, or Supreme Allied Commander of N.A.T.O, or maybe head of a new unified world government. I remember reading an interview with Dean Devlin about 10 years ago where he said the new movies wouldn't be about aliens blowing up cities again. There also was a good proposed synopsis of the sequel on this site, perhaps it still is. I don't think many movies have dealt with the aftermath of an alien invasion, except maybe Battlefield Earth, so this should be interesting.

Let the Aliens arrive in Sweden on mid-summers eve and have them feast on herring and schnaps.

Yes, Please do make IDF 1&2. I only hope that the creators have been working on it since 1996, in that case i think we'll be in for as good a show as the first time. But bringing back all the stars from the first ID will ruin it, maybe a few, hopefully the creator knows best which ones to keep and which not too, or it will be Tabboo at the box-office.  i only hope we're in for a treat like we were the first time.
