Indiana Jones now at Disney

A matter of time

It seems only proper that both franchises that were synonymous with Lucasfilm and Harrison Ford are now, officially, under the same roof. That’s right kids, Indiana Jones now belongs to Walt Disney. Variety had this to report:

“The Walt Disney Studios and Paramount Pictures have reached a distribution and marketing agreement for the Indiana Jones franchise. Under the arrangement, Disney gains distribution and marketing rights to future films, in addition to retaining the ownership rights it secured when it acquired Lucasfilm. Paramount will continue to be responsible for distribution of the first four films in the franchise and will receive a financial participation on any future films that are produced and released”.

Now with all this being said, Disney has not officially announced a fifth Indiana Jones movie. However, we have all heard that Ford was working that into his negotiations for the next Star Wars Trilogy. The issue that seems to have been a problem in the past was that no one could agree upon a new script. Ford had even said, he wasn’t going to Mars on the next one. Those problems, story wise, seemed to come from George Lucas. It will be interesting to see if Lucas will be involved int he next installment. Steven Spielberg has said that he would be interested in another adventure.

Indy was already at Disney. They just wanted to rework distribution rights same as they did for some of the Marvel films.

The question now is not whether but when will we get another Indy film

Now if we can get Lawrence Kasdan working on this script, like he is the Star Wars VII script,I'm thinkin' something good could be in the works here

This franchise is ripe for a reboot.  I love the first three, but it's time for Harrison Ford to hang up the fedora.  And no more Shite LeBeef either!

I'd rather have a CG animated movie or TV series voiced by Ford.

I don't really care whether we get more Indiana Jones, I'm optimistic about Star Wars, but there is another world under the Lucasfilm banner that I really wish SOMEBODY would start talking about - the world of WILLOW.  I would LOVE to see some new movies set in that world.

Caveman, you are right. The next book, yes there is one, takes place years after the first story. Sounds like a great place to start.

I heard there was a book, but never read it...I remember when it came out, they were talking about doing a trilogy of books, actually...did the trilogy never happen?

Not in love with the fact that Disney owns everything...not a big believer in benevolent monopolies.  They are a little too slick, sterile and commercial for my taste.  I know this works for a lot of you young family guys.  You can watch the movie with your kids, then go out and buy the toys, and video games and maybe even go to Disneyworld and see a young actor walking around dressed up like the character or go on the new ride based on the movie.

I remember watching "genre" flicks when I was a boy...they were cheesey, tacky, violent, often politically incorrect, and sometimes a little sexy (my parents didn't monitor what I was watching).  I loved those movies. Today's kids don't get that ...Disney is all about family...violence and tension are toned way down, sex is non existent, everything is politically correct...the good guys are never hurt and always's all clean, nice and good fun...and it's boring as hell if you are over the age of 12.

Wiseguy 12/8/2013 10:26:11 AM

blank did you go see Dredd, Europa Report, Last Days on Mars, Super, Kick Ass just to name a few? Because you see there's plenty of "genre" films for adults. They're often obviously done with a smaller budget and release to less fanfare but they are there.

The problem is that people bitch about the state of affairs but don't back it up with their wallets.

Subscribe to hulu and watch Misfits or Netflix and watch Hemlock Grove, True Blood on hbo.

I'd bet there's more adult oriented "genre" films today than ever before you just have to search them out. Especially if you're open to foreign films too

What Wiseguy said...also, come on...this post was originally about Indiana Jones before I got on my Willow tangeant...Indiana Jones was family friendly enough for my mom to take me to see "Raiders" in theaters when it first came out.  I don't see how Disney is going to cramp it's style.  They certainly haven't cramped Marvel's style.
