Indy 4 Update

While on a promotional tour for EIGHT BELOW, Frank Marshall told OptusNet that the next installment in the Indiana Jones series could be shot in Australia.

Marshall said the film "is still on the frontburner." He also added, "We really have to get the story right. The story has to be really good for any of us to do it and there are three pretty strong-willed creative minds involved in saying yes."

Marshall will produce the film along with George Lucas. Lucas is currently writing the script with David Koepp.

The storyline will follow on from the first three films and "Harrison is going to play the character and it is going to be 10 or 12 years later," said Marshall.

Thanks to Paul for the heads up.

Yadda yadda yadda yadda, All this talk and no action, get on with the movie.

This contradicts what was reported here on Spielberg. The way Cinescape told it Spielberg said that he was the director and that he had final approval on the script; it made it seem as if there was some contention.

Lucas is a great storyteller but a terrible writer... does that make sense? Basically, he can come up with great story outlines but he stinks at filling it all in. Take 'The Empire Strikes Back', the best movie in the series and Lucas didn't write the screenplay at all; the rest of the movies, he either wrote or co-wrote the screenplay... interesting isn't it?

10 or 12 years later after what? His first Social Security check?

Cinescape should just stop reporting on this story altogether. All everyone does is bitch and moan. (either that, or I should just stop reading this stupid rag)

That would set the film in 43 to 45 and will probably have elements of what made The Lost Ark and The Last Crusade so great. Nazi's and a supernatural artifact... let it be the Spear of Destiny!!!

Actually, Indy3 was set in 1938, so I would expect this to be post-Nazi 1948-50. More likely that the enemy, if it's truly embodied as a 'national enemy', would be the rising Soviet threat.

I always really loved the PC game Indy and Fate of Atlantis (this was early 90s) and felt it really captured the epic breadth of an Indy movie. This would also make a great plot, but I suspect they would want to do something entirely fresh.

Oh man... your right... though it could be the scrambling remaining Nazi's trying to resurrect the 4th Reich by finding the Spear of Destiny.

I heard the that Atlantis game was good, never played it myself.

They might just pass up the NAzi's and do something with different for enemies. THey probably should. I think that they created a wonderful trilogy and this film should be the "Final Mission" for glory and adventure. I just wonder if he'll lose the eye in this one.

More Indiana Jones 4 Talk from Harrison Ford
March 30th, 2006| Posted by Aaron

Time Out Film spoke with Harrison Ford about Indiana Jones 4 where Ford commented on the kind of story Indy 4 will be and stated that the latest script is something that everyone can get aboard with:

"Indiana Jones is going to be older and the story will therefore take place in a different historical period of time. We are not going back to World War II and the Nazis but I think that it will be relatively the same type of tale - George's special mix of Saturday matinee western serial and crypto-spiritual sort of stuff.

George is the one who generates these movies. Steven and I make them. We come on board after George has prescribed the territory.

Sometimes we don't agree and there was one script in particular that I didn't like so it was back to the drawing board. Now, after however many years, I'm delighted that we have something that we all have confidence in."

Nothing too terribly new, but I thought it was interesting how Ford described George Lucas' way of creating Indiana Jones using the classic serials of the 40's and "crypto-spiritual" elements. Stay tuned to TIE.c for the latest!

Thanks to Eddie for the link!

Six days Seven nights, Random Hearts, K-19, Hollywood Homicide, Firewall...look I like Harrison as much as the next person, but I sincerely hope they're not asking his feedback on the script. It's not exactly his gift.
