Interscope Records and Rockstar Games have signed a deal that will see the former release a soundtrack based on the highly anticipated forthcoming console video game GRAND THEFT AUTO: SAN ANDREAS. Both companies aren't releasing any details as to which artists or songs will appear on the game's soundtrack, instead favoring to build further hype before SAN ANDREAS hits store shelves on October 19.
Jimmy Iovine, the Chairman of Interscope, hinted that there will be more than one soundtrack released for the new GTA. In a release Iovine commented, "I believe that the enormous effort both companies have made in putting the soundtrack together has resulted in something truly special that will be reflected in both the game and the soundtrack albums."
To be available exclusively for the PlayStation 2, GRAND THEFT AUTO: SAN ANDREAS is set in a fictional Los Angeles-like city in the early 1990s. Gamers play as a reformed gangbanger that returns to the crime addled streets of Los Santos and is then framed for the murder of his mother. On the run from the cops and rival gangs, you have to find out who set you up and even the score. It's believed that the game would feature a heavy hip-hop soundtrack to reflect its setting and period.
