Content: (please note that content portions of a review may contain spoilers)

The series keeps on the leveling treadmill, as Inu Yasha heads to the Great Holy Demon for training.  The Great Holy Demon will teach him how to properly wield the Dragon-Scaled Tetsusaiga.  This involves an elaborate illusion designed to teach Inu Yasha a very important lesson.

Tetsusaiga is not meant to absorb demonic energy; it is meant to slice things.  Specifically, it is meant to slice demonic vortices thus destroying the demon it powers.  Yet, this still somehow causes Tetsusaiga to absorb that energy but in a manner that will not harm Inu Yasha.  Moryomaru also upgrades his armor by absorbing two demons that share a close bond.

The pace of this episode was less jarring than the previous but still had a transition or two that was not smooth.  The battle was actually entertaining, but the rest of the cast is once again swept aside in its wake.  They are quickly becoming irrelevant to the story, there simply to provide convenient plot devices as needed.

In Summary:

Inu Yasha: The Final Act continues to plod along the same roads we have seen before.  However, it is becoming less of an ensemble show; Sango, Miroku, and the rest are relegated to set pieces in the conflict.  This episode has them literally blown away without any action on their part.  Still, Inu Yasha’s battle to master a new skill provided some entertainment.  For a final act, it is doing little yet to go out with a bang.
